Are there any alternatives to the Malekko B:Assmaster or the Black Cat? I don't want to spend 170€ in a pedal...again...

There is also Polemaster (Bogdan Brassmaster) - it is for like 100€.

I've heard that Fulltone Octave Fuzz is great on bass, but nobody is using it here, I guess.

Creepy Fingers Pink Elephant (Ampeg Scrambler clone) is another option.

If you can find one where you are, the Pigtronix Disnortion is a really cool dirtbox that can do octave fuzz.

The Polemaster sounds interesting...a shop close to my university has a Fulltone and I've always wanted to try it on bass so...

Check out the HBE (Homebrew) UFO. Mark Olson did some clips of it awhile back and it sounded great. It was the best-sounding octavia on bass I've ever heard.

The UFO sounds KILLER! But I am looking for a bit more abrassive sound as I want to use the octave up fuzz for...hmm...let's say "industrial/electronic/noise-making purposes"

indeed it sounds really cool on bass. i had one for a bit. but it's not an octavia, it's a foxx tone machine (I think that's right), like the danelectro french toast

I did a terrible video a loooong time ago on an octavia clone I did. I LOVE the sound of this pedal on bass. Super nasty, especially when it pushes a muff!

You can build a clone for fairly cheap (GGG or BYOC).

After hearing some clips I think that I'm going to take a more Polish approach to the problem now I just have to sell a thing or two and get Bogdan's e-mail...

Has anyone tried a Foxx Tone Machine or the Danelectro French Toast on bass?

I have a French Toast. It sounds awesome by itself, but in a band mix, it gets lost. It might work well with a blend, though. If you already have some sort of blender, it's worth the $35 the pedal costs to give it a try.

check this

go to: http://www.home-wrecker.com/bazz.html

check out the last circuit, Buzz Box.

Not sure if that's the sound you're after but it a pretty straight-forward build. I built one and find it interesting but could be swayed to ship it out.

I was thinking of making one so I'll have a play around and see if I can get it to stand out from the mix a bit better before I do box it up. I have a blender too so I can see lots of experimenting happening with this lad. Nice one.

I only used it with a band a couple of times because once I turned it on, I would totally disappear from the mix. If it helps you at all, it sounded like a two-fold problem: low-end rolloff and midrange scoop. It sounded fat enough by itself, but I think that the fundamentals were missing. I think it rolled off below 100hz or 150hz, and the midrange seemed like it was possibly more scooped than a Black Russian BMP.
