octave up pedal?

Sign in to disble this ad
all octaver pedals seem to have be octave down. I want a pedal that generates octave up - line an eight sting - and with good tracking.

Is it harder to make? any reasons for why so few- if any? on the market?

hey mate, there a few options for an octave up pedal. depends how much cash you wanna blow really. the ehx hog's (or it might be pog's can never remember which is up and which is down...) get a lot of attention but also a fair bit of cash. if you can get your hands on a bass whammy it should do the job. i've also read good things about the joyo ultimate octave (JOYO Effects Pedal - ULTIMATE OCTAVE **+FREE Picks** | eBay)if you want a cheaper option, but havn't actually heard one in action.

there are quite a few more options than just those i've mentioned but i think they seem to be the most popular, from what i've read anyway

EHX MicroPOG tracks flawlessly.
There's also the Foxrox Octron, only analog octave up pedal I know of.

some bigger and more expensive options would be the EHX POG2, MarkBass SuperSynth, or Eventide PitchFactor.

markbass supersynth does not do well with 8 notes at certain tempos.

Cave Passive Pedals make an octave up pedal. It outputs only the +1 octave. Not sure how good it tracks, as the builder doesn't have a video up.

If you are looking for a clean octave up then consider the Whammy, EHX POG, Akai UniBass or the Fishman Fission. There are also pitch shifters that can do a pretty good job and most multi effects offer some sort of pitch shifting.
I use an Akai UniBass and the pitch shifter on the Zoom B2 with really good results and sometimes the Whammy in the Digitech BP8. The Unibass gets a very guitarish sound that tracks very well, the Zoom is more digital sounding but still works very well and will also do 2 octaves up.

The Octron and Joyo Ultimate Octave use a tuned distortion circuit to get the upper octave and are not clean enough to use for a faux 8 string sound.

I have the Fishman pedal. So far the jury is still out on it. It does octive up and fifth above or below the octive. Supposed to sound like a guitar playing power cords. So far I haven't found it to be convincing. You can run the effect to a separate amp.

I use the pitch shifting function on my Ring Thing to do whammy functions. The Thing can go anywhere from one semitone up or down to over two octaves in either direction. It also has a blend knob so you can retain low end for an octaver-type effect. Oh yeah, polyphonic tracking too (the whammy is monophonic and glitches out when you try to pitch shift chords. It can be a neat effect but sounds odd if you want clean shifting).
