i was wondering in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LK1tQz9Lr7w if he is using an octaver. it starts at 0:56. sounds like the bass drops out a bit lower at the time

Hard to be sure considering the low fidelity, but I think he was just playing a couple of chords.

Sounds like a no. If I'm wrong however, I will feel pretty stupid and come up with plenty of excuses though.

Yeah it sounds like Ben has it on the whole time. It's an OC-2 FWIW.

yeah i was looking at the oc-2. i think i'm diggin that sound more everytime i hear one. i think pino palladino is the cause of this..i really dig the tone in the clip though. is he using something with the octaver to make it sound heavy.

I just picked up one of these babies:

I was gonna go with a Micro POG, but I like the Sub-Blaster sound better.

Apparently there's 2 types of oc-2? I didn't know that... one seems to require the old ACA power (12VDC IIRC) and one can be done off any 9VDC center neg type deal (the PSA one)

okay so i just recieved the oc-2 i won off of ebay. it is the older ACA version. is the only difference the between the two versions the type of adapter it uses? they both can still run off a regular 9v battery right?

9V battery still works.

It takes your regular bass signal and drops and/or raises it an octave. They're pretty cool.

Yep they both use 9v batteries (IIRC). The ACA is 12VDC unregulated, again IIRC. If you have a voodoo lab PP2, or something simillar, you should be able to power it without the battery

Any songs that I can hear that use this type of effect? Sounds like this is something you would use in a solo or intro or something?

Well, there's the Incubus track linked to above.

Here are a couple others:
