OD/Distortion recommendations.

I love a gnarly distorted bass sound. I've tried a bunch of different fuzzes, they don't really work for me with my band.

Here's what I have and like: Fulltone OCD, 3 different era Rats, MXR M80, Aguilar AGRO, ZVEX Box of Rock, Boss Blues Driver, EHX BBM, EHX NYC BM, & Sanford and Sonny Bluebeard, & HAO Sole Pressure.

I've tried and disliked: Boss ODB-3 (too scoopy) & Fulltone Bassdrive (way too polite).

I'm just on the never ending quest for the sound in my head. Sadly, it changes...

Any suggestions?

You are probably losing your low end. I think some bass OD, distortion pedals have a bypass for the low frequencys so they are not lost. If you are using guitar fx, they will not do this.
you could try biamping with the effects on the high and dry on the low, crossover around 150hz.
My line 6 gives me some great OD and distortion.

Well, i have a Barge VB-JR, I actually prefer my distortions without it. That and the rig I'm running (Aguilar DB751 w/ DB8x10 & DB4x12) has plenty of low end.

I think the dude from Young Widows has a great bass sound, esp. on "Took a Turn". It's pretty close to what I'm thinking of.

The Bogdan Polish Love does Nick's tone very well, IMHO. I'm also a mid booster so that plays a big part.
I was just jamming on some Young Widows a few minutes ago.

Ampeg SVT-3Pro + Vintage Reissue RAT...so since you have RATs, you can get close.

I'm working on getting myself a Gallien Krueger Diesel Dawg at the moment.

If you play metal and wanted a gnarly distortion pedal, I would recommend the tech 21 xxl bass edition distortion pedal. this distortion pedal has a killer sound and it's got a lot of crunch.

Interesting. I'll check that out.

I've got a Goosonique’s Seventheaven on the way. I'm pretty stoked to try it.

I just got a Diesel Dawg today -- liking it so far. I have after one of those compressors that can add back some uncompressed signal with different EQ shelving (Seymour Duncan). Gives the Dawg something else to chew on. Only problem -- once it's got the tone-bone, you can't take it back.
