OD(s) into VT Bass

I have had a chance to try a vt bass, but not with my pedals yet.

I own a an xotic bb preamp, mastotron, odb-3, and I recently picked up a tech 21 xxlb off amazon for way too cheap. Anyone have any experiences with these pedals stacked with a VT Bass? I'm most curious about the xotic as I hear it is a bit more compressed and mid rangey.

Why shouldn't that work? Kind of silly question, since the VT is a simulation of the classical Ampeg stack. Have you ever asked yourself whether it worked to put any distortion pedal in front of a stack?

I haven't stacked those particular pedals into the VT, but I have accidentally had other pedals turned on while using the VT. I don't think it sounds very good with other pedals. I think the pedal is best used by itself. I even turn off my EBS compressor when I'm using the VT because it already does some compression.

Having said that, my applications might be different from yours, so you should experiment and report back. Never hold back trying to invent new sounds.

interesting. i'm really curious about the xotic though. i got it from tone factor, so i'm considering sending it back for an SFT, i'm just wondering some input from those that have tried a few different ODs into it.

Personally I would have to agree with the previous poster. I don't have a huge array of pedals, but I found the VT to not be the most cooperative pedal. Works great stand alone. Doesn't play nice with others, IME

The VT works best LAST in the chain in my experience, and best with fuzz circuits that don't do tone shaping, letting the VT do it's thang with the tone (like the Brassmaster, Brown Dog etc etc.)

My pedalboard is:
Diamond Bass Compressor(24v) -> EHX Bass Big Muff -> Fulltone Bassdrive Mosfet (12v) -> VT Bass -> MXR BLS Chorus -> Radial Bassbone -> DI to FOH and out to Backline.

The VT Bass plays very well with the fuzz / OD before it. Just have to set the gain stages correctly. As my signal is always direct where ever I go and I predominantly use inears. It's nice to be able to carry "my sound" in pedalboard format. Incidentally, I didn't like the VT bass till I figured out where the (most) neutral sound was - which isn't the knobs at noon.
