ODB-3 as a Clean Boost

Sign in to disble this ad
Just got back from band practice and found that the Boss ODB-3 works exceptionally well as a clean boost. Anyone else tried this before?

I just dialed out the Gain and Balance, turned the Bass EQ to 2 oclock and the Treble EQ to 3 oclock and put my volume at about 2 oclock. Colors the tone of the amp very little, but what is added is actually desirable

Yeah, i have found the ODB-3 to have a very nice clean boost. Pretty cool huh?

There's actually settings for that in the odb-3 owners manual. I figured out today that the LS-2 also works well for this, particularly if you don't connect anything to the loop, then pump the gain.

Great, now I have a use for that pedal, up until now I haven't found the overdrive in it very pleasing, this might be it's ticket for the board instead of resting in the bottom of one of my "random gear" boxes.

On the subject of clean boost - the old Boss HF-2 Hyper Fuzz has a gnarly clean boost, too. In front of a tube amp, it pushes the preamp into total grunt land. Awesome!

Now, I need to get my hands on an OBD-3 (no, it's true, I really don't have one after all these years!).

I've recently rediscovered mine by putting it in the effects loop of my amp instead of putting right after my bass. I love the tone way more, it's more natural and really breaks up nice!

I tried it, but it seems to be a little scooped. I like a tone of mids and it steals them.
