ODB-3 weirdness

Sign in to disble this ad
Setting up for a gig tonight and my ODB-3 is passing a signal through it but without putting any overdrive effect to it. I can get volume changes when I twist level and gain knobs, but nothing much seems to happen when I turn the balance knob and I'm not getting any grit at all. Any ideas of what I can try to get it working? I can work without it but it'd be nice to have.

Signal chain is Pitchblack-->ODB-3-->PH-3-->BSW-->CEB-3-->MagicStomp-->FV50H and everything else seems to be working normally.

If need be I can get some dirt out of the MagicStomp, I just like the ODB-3 better

Cheers

Seems to have been just a temporary issue. The pedal was working fine again by the time we were actually ready to play and the gig went well. I just hope it's not going to be a problem child in the future.

I believe you had a short across two of the leads on your balance pot. It's possible that you have some conductive dust that is in your pedal or the pot leads got bent together. If it happens again you could open it up and look for any clear signs of a potential short.

I finally had a chance to play around with this. The ODB-3 worked just fine when I took it out of the chain and plugged it in by itself. I didn't test extensively enough to be 100% sure, but it's working consistently after I moved its place in the chain after the BSW.

I tried taking the back off to check for shorts, but I couldn't figure out how to disconnect the board- it's pretty firmly secured at the knob end and I didn't want to break anything by trying to force it (and I couldn't be bothered at the time to Google up a how-to).

Anyway, long story short, my chain is now Pitchblack-->BSW-->ODB3-->PH3-->CEB3-->MagicStomp and it seems to be behaving itself again. If I have more trouble down the road I'll make a more determined effort to get inside and have a look-see.
