Saw Chronicle's idea and suddenly got the urge to do one myself. Sorry, no clips, but heres whats been through my boards:
Category: Distortion/Overdrive/Fuzz Electro-Harmonix Nano Muff
Still have this little gem. This is the only overdrive I've found that works well with my Dunlop 105Q Wah. Not much to it, just a volume knob, but even the the low end loss on this thing isn't that big.
Boss ODB-3 Bass Overdrive
This has been on and off my board many times. Bought it to replace my Nano Muff when I let me dad borrow the Muff. Had problems with feedback, so I took it off the board when I got my Nano Muff back. Recently put it back in commission after I found I could use it as a clean boost.
DOD FX101 Grind Rectifying Overdrive
Bought this off of Craigslist for $15, simply because it had a 'Fear' control. All in all, it wasn't a bad overdrive. Really reminiscent of Cliff Burton's tone, but a lot of low end loss. Later sold as part of a deal to get a Hartke Bass Attack.
Marshall Guv'nor
Didn't have this guy for very long. Good overdrive, but my dad was in the market for a guitar overdrive, so he is now the owner.
Sabine Fuzzstortion
Found this odd pedal in the corner of the music shop display case. Had excellent low end response as well as good distortion and fuzz. One problem though, it had a weird 9v input, so it was burning through batteries, so this one ended up getting sold
Behringer VT911 Vintage Tube Overdrive
Usually I'm not quick to judge Behringer's pedals because most of them aren't that bad. This one though just [i]isn't good[i]. Lots of low end loss and the overdrive breakup sounds messy and blurry.
Ibanez FZ-7 Fuzz
I had this fuzz for the raunchiness factor. You could get this thing so dirty, it was beautiful. I enjoyed the 'broken speaker' switch on it as well. This was later traded as part of the Bass Attack deal.
DOD FX52 Classic Fuzz
This is a pedal I wish I had held onto. Great fuzz, just a nice edgy, mostly furry tone. Traded it for the Behringer, which was a bad call on my part
Electro-Harmonix USA Big Muff
Bought this thinking all my distortion issues would be solved. The sound is classic, but to my surprise, I really favored the Nano Muff's tone over it. Great pedal, just not my style.
Boss XT-2 Xtortion
Bought this simply because it was a rare Boss pedal that they only made for 2 years. Good guitar distortion, but definatley not for bass.
Category: Chorus/Flanger/Phaser Digitech Bass Multi-Chorus
This pedal will forever be a staple on my board. In my opinion, it is the best chorus out there, hands down. The tone is just so lush and thick, its hard to beat
Fender Starcaster Flanger
Bought this at Best Buy in an attempt to get another modulation on my board. Found out the flanger effect all together isn't for me. The pedal isn't self wasn't so bad, but the sweep and depth controls left something to be desired.
Electro-Harmonix Nano Small Stone
First pedal I ever bought. It was a good pedal, but I never used it much, so it ended being given to my guitar player. Good for subtle phase shifting, but I prefer the MXR Phase 90.
Category: Wah/Envelope Filter/Auto Wah Dunlop 105Q CryBaby Bass Wah
This is one of the best wahs out there, hands down. Nothing fancy in the way of controls, just a volume and 'Q' control. Excellent sweep control and works well in conjunction with my Nano Muff. It has become a main staple on my board.
Boss AW-2 Auto Wah
Has only one good setting for bass, but the sweep contour is pretty cool and added with some distortion, it makes a cool effect. Got this in a trade for the XT-2, still have it, just not on the board at the moment.
Category: Octave & Synthesizer MXR Bass Octave (not the Deluxe version)
Have tried and tried again to use this pedal, but I can't find a good setting in which to use an octave effect. The pedal itself however is a good octave pedal and paired with the right distortion, you can conjure some pretty cool synth sounds with it. Gave it to a friend of mine who is also a bass player who might have better use for it.
Boss SYB-3 Bass Synthesizer
My guitar player gave this to me to play around with, and like the octave, I can't find a practical setting to use it in. In addition to that, the sustain of some of the effects was limited and some of the other effects didn't even semm to work correctly. But, I was never a fan of synth to begin with...
Category: Preamp/EQ/Compression Hartke VXL Bass Attack
This is by far the best pedal I have ever purchased. I conjunction with my Hartke LH500 head, it has produced the tone I have been searching for. My favorite setting is the 'Roundabout' setting with the harmonic control boosted a little more to give the tone a little more growl. The three band EQ is excellent, the 'shape' control is a cool feature, adding an element of its own to your tone, and the harmonics control (basically a 'Drive' control) performs excellent as well. Overall, a its a pedal I think every bassist should own.
Boss GEB-7 Bass Equalizer
This was an excellent pedal in that you were able to sculpt your tone and give yourself a boost to cut through the mix. Foolishly sold it later on for forgotten reasons
Digitech Bass Squeeze Compressor
Good, functional pedal, did everything it was supposed to do, but it took away my volume something awful, so this pedal was later part of the deal to get the Bass Attack.
Category: Other Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor
Got this pedal in a large pedal deal, never used it and later sold it as part of the deal for the Bass Attack
Danelectro Corned Beef Reverb
Found that it really didn't work that well on bass, another pedal I gave to my father for his guitar board.
Electro-Harmonix Mole Bass Booster
Cool, inexpensive pedal. Be warned, this is NOT a volume boost. You'll loose some of your original tone, but you'll also gain new tonal options. Working on integrating this into my board at the moment
There you have it fellow TBer's, feel free to leave questions/comments
