OFFICIAL MICROTUBES VINTAGE PEDAL SETTINGS THREAD

OK, starting today we've started getting our hot hands and fingers - and picks - on this long awaited pedal. This thread is intended to be a one-stop source SOLELY for sharing settings and pedal board placement/configurations for the Darkglass Microtubes Vintage.....

It doesn't come with any manuals, etc. so we're on our own.

Please share your settings. And also specify what else you have on your board going in and out of the pedal as well as other relevant details of your rig, the sound you're looking for, etc. If we all can stay On Topic this should be a great resource for all of us! This is a brand new pedal so this is Ground Zero for this type if info!

I'm jamming with it right now. I'm on smoke break. As its sitting right now I am having trouble cutting through with it. BUT, I'm running my VT with it so this is going to take some time. My OCD is still rockin and cutting through like nobody's business. Here is what I have it set at right now. I've been tweaking it like crazy though.

Any suggestions on how I can get this pedal to shine through the mix?

What's you pedal chain? What happens when you turn the VT off? Does the Vintage play the role the VT had?

Just got mine too, but try turning the blend down and the level up a bit.

I will try that with the blend and level knobs. Now that you say that it makes perfect sense. I'll have to do that next time I jam. Here's my board again. I plug my bass into the auto wah and my amp goes into the BDDI. The BDDI is almost always off since I got the VT.

Any suggestions on order? Or even ditching something? I don't think anything anyone says is set in stone, just looking for educated opinions. Thanks!

My chain is above in the pic but I'll list it here too, my bass plugs into:

Boss auto wah
EHX Micro POG
Fulltone OCD
Vintage tubes
Mxr bass chorus dlx
SA VT bass
Delay
SA BDDI- last I'm chain then to my amp.

What do you guys recommend switching/subtracting/moving..... Suggestions are very welcome. It seems I almost have too much going on here and idk what exactly to try. Know what I mean?? :hiding:

Like with anything, I think it helps to start simple: I'd set my tone, the one I like using the least amount of gear (usually bass and amp is enough)... which will be your base since.

After that you can start tweaking the other added elements and see how they affect this base by themselves and combined with others.

Regards
Doug.

i havent received mine yet, but i know where im going to place it.

since i'll be using it as an "always on" sound im going to place it last in my chain before my amp, i like to EQ a bit of bass and treble on my head and have a massive load of 1khz mids BEFORE my "always on" drive sound, seems to get those mids really sizzling, slices through the mix.

i've also gone back to using the ampeg ultra-lo switch a bit, with the massive 1khz boost before the drive it still has lots of mids

Thanks for setting this up! My Vintage should arrive tomorrow. It will be my only effect, other than my Boss TU-2 tuner pedal. The Vintage is replacing my Boss ODB-3.

Well after spending about 20 minutes with the Vintage MT, I have come to the conclusion that.........

...

I'm gonna need some time to really dig into this pedal! I'm so used to the way the B3K works (even though I'm still figuring that one out and finding new tones every time I use it!) that it's just...weird! But in a good way!

So far I'm getting some good results having the blend down and the level up. Gonna have to spend a good while figuring this one out...so far I'm liking what I hear though!

I felt like that with my B3K and still do. Just like you, I'm finding new and interesting ways to use it, over a year later.

Regarding your new Vintage as well - I think that's the hallmark of a great pedal.:)

A clip of me doing my best to cop a "not really Cliff Burton" Cliff Burton tone! Jazz bass and Vintage Microtubes running through a GK fusion 550 into my crappy tascam interface.

Great sound! But, the whole point here is the posting of settings! So, what settings did you use for this? Thanks!

Epitaph04 03-23-2013 11:24 AM

But thats a secret! Ive actually messed around with it since but if I remember correctly....

Blend: 9 o clock
Level: 2 o clock
Era: 5 o clock (maxed out)
Drive: 12:30-1:00 o clock.

That sounded pretty awesome!! Thanks for the demo and sharing the settings!

Any more settings people?

I'm actually enjoying the sound I'm getting with all knobs at 12o'clock..unity level warm gritty drive to kick in with my TH500 amp.
