lol I think I'll join this one,...

after actually counting them and finding I have 10 dirt boxes, some of them laying around the house, others on the noise board, others on the band board etc,...

buying a few impulse things and letting them sit after only trying them once after buying them... korg AX3000B being a good example,... although I do use my B2 as a practice amp with headphones...

but yes, lots of excess pedals laying around, and lots of 'almost but not quite' tones that always elude me... still I think im pretty happy with most of my gear and realising how much money im spending im gonna have to stop buying / also selling stuff off...

that said, having now had the super collider and the hyperion recently most of the 'tone' I was chasing has now been found... just lets not hope I look for any more dirt tones!

modulation/delay etc didn't bother me somuch and I have stuck with my first buys on that one... although the boss Ps-3 is my onl major love and hate pedal... love the pitch shifting on it and sounds way better than Whammy XP100 but occasionally the trumpet/chime sounds on it get to me,...

ok think I have to go make a list of things I want to sell off now...
forgot I even had the XP100 sitting in its box for so long now lol

edit: dad says I should stop buying things and only buy another effect when I have made 1000$ from my band... lol

Here's my latest Tone Chaser move.

Spent $175 on a lot of 250 Mullard Mustard Caps because I wanted about 50 or so of 'em to use as tone stack caps. I don't even need the really valuable ones, so once I get the lot I gotta pull out what I need and sell the rest on the 'bay to recoup the cost.

Someone will buy em to repair or restore some Marshall or Vox amp I'm sure, and if not, maybe I'll look up a schem and attempt to build an amp.

I've certainly chased a good bass tone, for a good while, but not so far as actually modding any gear. Funny, because I work in electronics, but everything I have is 100% factory stock. Just had to buy alot of it to finally chase down the tone I wanted.

haha! I wouldn't even know where to start!
Just looking at my user profile will probably give you an idea of where I'm at.
I have received many pedals and turned around and posted them, or returned them THE SAME DAY!
I'll definately take a number...I need help!

Hey Ricken,

We all take it to different extremes, but the turnstile on the pedalboard, revolving door policy on pedals definitely qualifies. It's the oh so familiar "That's ALMOST the sound I want, except..." feeling every time we add a piece of gear. So many near misses it feels like playing a game of battleship w/a cheating opponent.

(Lemme know if you want a number as well)

Not me! I play an SX strung with chicken wire through a Behringer 1x10 combo and I'm pleased as punch! I spend more on lunch than I do on chasing tones!

I don't know if it is tone chasing per se because my clean tone hasn't changed much since I started which is bass with flat > tube amp and I've only really changed my main amp three times in over 17 years [more headroom for the most part.

But I have this thing for dirt boxes... and filters... but mostly dirt boxes.

Heck yeah, sign me up. I'm currently a member of 14 "clubs" on this site, don't know why, but somehow it feels a bit like therapy.

Please sign me up...I Just "finished" my pedal board on Sunday replacing an XXLB with the Attack Goat (Great replacement, if the XXLB had a blend I wouldn't have had to replace it. But the AG's distortion and EQ is so pretty!) and on Monday I received a Barber Dirty Bomb. Which I like. Don't know if it keeps the low end enough for the band, but if it doesn't I'll still keep it for inspiration at home. It has a lot of tones. If it does handle low end OK, I have no idea where I'll put it. I'll enjoy the discovery.
Future purchases will sadly have to wait for tax refund season. I have a hunger still for a few DeviEvers (is the still available Hyperion comparable to the SMBH for low end?), a Pickle (to compliment the other food group: Prunes and Custard), an OCD, maybe a Hyperpack. Anyone try that one? Hows the subs on that? Oh and that thing that someone was writing about yesterday that sounds like an octave without the octave...

BassBrass- I think you'll like the Dirty Bomb, but won't fall head over heels in love w/it. The inner Sub knob works great for retaining the lows, but the bass knob on the outside seems only functional for a small sweep (for me). It's like... it enhances @ about 100Hz, but as you dime it out, the center freq. seems to spread wider and lose it's focus (and consequently let in a li'l mush as well). Just take your time dialing it in.

I also have a Devi Bass Fuzz (same as the SMBH.... Thx tiger) and for what it does, it does it well. It's kinda synthy, but not as much so as a P&C. Hard to describe really, but it's harsh in a good way.

I think this club is for me as well... today I just bought another OD/Dist pedal (Xotic Bass BB). I may not have as many as most of the FX alumni, but I can feel more coming.

Problem is, once you start the chase, there's no "end game". I mean, I thought I was done many times, then something new comes out, or something you missed, whatever. I've even bought the same pedal multiple times. Nuts, in a good way.
