The fact that the Apogee will work on PC has me leaning towards that interface. Except there's not a ton of programs on the PC that I really like.
I'm kinda torn. I have a really good laptop (Windows), but no iPad. My iPhone is a 4S, and runs AT with no issues at all, but to upgrade the interface is a $100 purchase. At that cost I'm hitting the point where just using AT on the laptop might be a better choice.
I'd really like to stay with iOS, so hopefully someone comes along with a cheaper solution for a 30 pin interface.

I was thrilled when the switch to 30 pin was updated. I went and bought the USB camera connection kit (30 bucks) from apple at Target.
Because I already had purchased the art USB dual pre. It works with iPad and Mac/pc it cost $69.00 but you might find it used or cheaper than I did.
So it did cost me a hundred bucks but I bought them separate with months between the two. So it didn't seem like a hundred
I did a little search just now... I wonder if this would work into the USB camera kit:.
They both say they work with Mac/pc.
But it may be better to hold off, save up and get the dual pre or a similar product that allows for mics too.

Yeah but my two purchases were far enough part that it was easier to justify the dual pre was the first purchase many months before the camera connection kit. When I bought the camera kit I was just hoping and crossing my fingers that it would work together on the iPad.
Now that I think about it the duel pre runs on 9volt battery or USB "powered" 2.2 hub.....or an ac adapter to 9.5v dc. It doesn't come with the ac adapter!!!!! I had one of those already from a baby monitor not being used anymore. (schwoooo) That also may be another purchase. The iPads 30 pin doesn't give it enough juice to run USB.
The IPad would say...." The accessory is not compatible" or something when the power adapter wasn't plugged in. I didn't and don't trust a 9 volt battery when at a gig or recording.

Yeah, that's the biggest stumbling block right now, how to get charging capability while running AT through the 30 pin.
There's no way an iPad/iPhone is gonna last through three sets without charging at least between sets. If a simpler charging solution becomes available, it'll be cool, but I wouldn't hold your breath with the charging connector being changed for iPhone 5.

You can use a split USB cable thus 2 on one side and two on the other side, the same which used to drive hard disks from a PC by using the power of 2 USB ports. I use this solution to play music. My DACport (DAC and headphone amp) is connected to the iPad with the 30 pin camera kit and to the iPad charger at the same time.
It seems they would boast that it also charged the iPad while plugged in. I think the wall plugged into the USB port is only charging the device.
Cool though.... but the price that is being suggested so far is a bit steep too....for me.

Here is an other device which will work (I think) nicely with iPad/ iPhone: http://www.centrance.com/products/ap/
As you can see it is both a preamp/ DAC for both the signal from the bass and a DAC/ headphone amp.
I use this headphone/ DAC with my iPad (and the camera connectivity kit) when I listen to music in my AKG 701: http://centrance.com/products/dacport/
As this device need more power then the iPad can deliver I use this cable:
The iPad camera connectivity is connected to the main USB while the iPad charger is connected to the secondary USB. The mini USB is connected to the DACport headphone amp. As you can see the AxePort Pro can be connected to the iPad in the same way.
There are a lot of new postings in the "real" portaflex club of sound clips of the b15 and 18. Check em out!
I have noticed something about all of the recordings of poster on this and other sites.
I've heard.... from almost every posting of sound sample.... of all sorts of guitars and basses and their amps.......
Hissssssssssssss
The amount of hiss coming from the irig is not that bad.
The hisssssss from these recordings are sometimes loud. Real loud.
I didn't have that much hiss with the IRig especially now with 30 pin. very clean.
I really need to do a few iPad to soundcloud postings. Maybe tonight. Practice has been cancelled.

for the most part to give the posters props. the hiss isnt noticable most of the time because of the computer speakers dont produce the hiss all that much but, if you listen with headphones on most of the postings out there. just like you do 98% of the time when listening to the iRig through the headphone port. you hear the hiss. Using mics.... in a room recording an amp you can't get around "some" hiss. maybe it has been minimized to almost nonexistent like 20db to a recorded amp reproducing 98db A flat but its there. its in-audible when you play a note. but its still there at 20 db hiss being recorded right along with the 98 db A flat.

duke those are really sweet
i would like one each please. That's if you are buying.
the art usb dual pre still offers more features... like two channels in and out. Just not at 96Khz. of course 96Khz is the best. the dual pre is at 16 bit and 44.1Khz or 48Khz. that's cd quality. people nowadays usually dont get audio as good as 48Khz good. mp3's aren't as good. for one track/instrument being converted and output at 48khz sounds fantastic.
At B&H right now they are under $60.00. The headphone/monitor mix knob for wet/drying the computer/preamp output signal is nice too.

Duke you should post the soldano clip on this thread too
There's a prime example of the ik guys already having the amp in the Mac/pc version and piping it right on down to the iOS version 2 from 3
More bass amps! more bass amps! more bass amps!
The soldano was a late release to the custom shop after 3.5 on Mac/pc AT......just saying.

New idea/ draft.
Recorded on Amplitube iOS with the new Soldano amp which is a high gain amp for guitar... I used the Ampeg 15" cab.
The bass is my Ric 4003. http://soundcloud.com/duke21/solanris-mix-m4a
I post this clip just to show that Amplitube have some endorsed amps in the Amplitube 2 and 3 PC/ Mac versions which they transform into the iOS version.
We hope as usual that IK multimedia will do the same regarding bass amps!
Adam asked me if I tried this amp with a guitar. Well, I do not own an electric guitar. In addition the strings on these instruments are damn small and the spacing are too tight....

Interesting, but I'm not going yet to say which is which!
One thing. Due to the differences in among others the GUI and available knobs regarding tone tweaking it is not easy to find the same sound on both amps. On Amp nr.2 I've might used more gain then on Amp nr.1 so amp 1 might seem to be more clean.
