OK, looking for a tube sound:

Sign in to disble this ad
sorry this is long....
with out the expence of the tube amp....

i have a sansamp, pbdi, set to fat tube, SVT, and my own custom (basically a SVT with more grit) manily on the svt, then kick in the third channel when the guitard solos (or i solo)

i notice that Chris Ross of what WAS Wolfmother, uses the English Muff'n Overdrive.
i love his tone:

the vamp around 315-520ish is amazing

so i checked out EXO's pedals and i stummbled over the LPB 2ube
http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/p...amp?sku=153326
which would provide a growly tuby tone?

link to the muffin:
http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/p...dal?sku=153335

anyone used one or the other?
thanks to all that can help!!

honestly, the best thing to get great tube tone, is a great tube amp.

yes it's simple as that. no pedal is going to simulate correctly the girth and thickness and depth and warmth of an all tube amp. so just buy one.

Grrr....

i know i should get a tube amp, but im on a budget, and im impatient.....

if i forced my self to save for a tube amp what would you recommed?
the SVT CL(thats what i really want) or the more affordable VB2? which is 75w less.....
the vb2 can operate at 8ohms (still giving me 225 right?)
but the CL's specs only show 2 or 4 ohms, so id have to get another cab, which im looking at the 610....

BN, you seem to be confusing a distorted tone with tube tone. Which is understandable since you've never used one, and Sansamp's sample SVT and Fat Tube tones (at least the settings they give for Fat Tube and SVT on the VT pedal) are distorted. I really don't think you're looking for actual tube tone, but a distortion that sounds like a tube power amp being driven hard into distortion. The BDDI will sort of do it, but the VT does an amazing job of it. Bassmec is right that a solid state pedal won't give you the exact feeling of playing a tube amp, but the VT does a very credible job of faking it, much better than the BDDI. I have been able to mimic the sounds of my SVT and B-15's with the VT almost perfectly. But the BDDI should at least be able to get you in the ballpark.

You're killing me with the nitpicking!

Anyway, like I said, a little preamp with a tube or two is not the same as a full-on tube head. I think you're best off just sticking with the BDDI for now until you can experience the difference between a little cheap preamp pedal with a tube or two in it and a real tube head.

Grrr...
Poppycock!
yea, i know your right...
better start saving my nickles!!!
SVT, here i come!!
oh, by the way, how much 'harm' would i do if i ran the Cl at 8ohms for about a month or two?
i only have an 8ohm cab, got my eye set on the 610.
then ill use my sansamp to record.
*sheds tear* that will be the only time it will be used, unless i cant use the CL for some reason....

I think a CL would be OK running at 8 ohms for a month or two, although I wouldn't make a habit of it and I'd only do it when you absolutely have to. I have played many a rental SVT-CL with a rented 8 ohm cab and had no ill effects. I wouldn't do it to my own SVT, though.

Played through a SVT for the first time this weekend. Yeah, there's really no substitute for the feeling it gave me.

Who would flame you for that? You're absolutely right! It's not quite as satisfying as a real SVT, but it does nail the tones.

I only said it cause i half way expected some hardcore tube guy to come in and say The only way to get the tube sound is with a tube amp. end of transaction. And although this is true. I love my amp too much to part with it.

yea, unless i hit the jackpot playing the lotery, ill be stuck with an 8ohm for a while...
funny how this started with pedals and moved to amps
and MAJOR difference between the B115E and the SVT15E
both cabs are 200rms with 400peak

I'm pretty sure the differences are cosmetic.
