Disclaimer: I did a search and not a singe thread came up w/ the word "guitar" in it (as in- guitar effects). Doesn't sound right to me BUT-

What TYPES of effects (as in: OD, compression, etc.) don't rely on the frequency of the input or aren't designed around a certain frequency sweep or range of input? What I'm asking I guess is what types of effects don't necessarily need a "bass" version and that the "bass" versions are more marketing than anything else? Are there any? Obviously the standard "Just try them and see if they sound good" holds true but I'm way behind on the journey to poverty and homelessness and I'd just as soon avoid the dead-ends lol.

If this horse has been beat beyond measure and I just searched the wrong terms, let me know and mods delete the thread. Pleaseandthankyou.

No effects need to be bass specific. Lots of guitar pedals work just fine for bass. I have hardly owned any bass specific pedals... Check the pedal board threads. You will see heaps of guitar pedals on peoples boards.

It's trial and error. Some lose lows, lots don't.

modulation effects (chorus, phase, flange) are not specific to bass frequencies.

delay is not bass specific.

although some pedals may not have enough dynamic headroom for the output of a bass. I've experienced delay pedals that distort because of thier limited headroom.

But some designed with a bass in mind have a wet/dry mix control or a low-pass filter onboard.

Tremolo pedals.

I'm very interested in the Empress Tremolo myself.
