I play bass cus I like it. I also dont play in a band, so I dont need a huge amp.
Im looking at a 410 combo whatever type thing. Problem is, none of them ive looked at have a tube pre. Which is definatly what I want, even if its just for the compression effect that tubes have.
So, Ive been thinking that instead of getting a hugely overpowered (for my situation) pre-power-cab setup, im thinking of getting a pedal pre.
But i want tubes. Ive been thinking about getting a PDDI again, but the problem is that it has cab emulation with it. Are there any pedals like the PDDI (tube, real or emulated, and a 3 band eq, para midrange) but without cab/mic emulation.
Basically a tube pre in a pedal form with EQ. Ive done a couple of searches, but I tend to suck at em so ill do a couple more
Thanks in advance
QUick Edit: Bassically im looking to put together an FX/Pre setup on a pedalboard. I can then run it thru a low power amp/cab/combo for practice, and if i ever get into a band I can buy a separate higher powered poweramp/cab for that purpose.

I came upon the EBS Microbass II in my searching. Im just wondering if the signal chain on it goes tube drive -> eq, or the other way around. If i can use channels A and B to get a overdriven tube sound and a 3 band para mid EQ.....
Also, it appears that the speaker sim is only on the DI. A good thing imo, and one thing that has me leaning towards it. Plus MF will ship it to the great white north |

I just got a Mesa Walkabout 1x15" and it's the best god damned combo on the planet - I can't believe how loud it is! 2x12AX7 pre - all tube right up to the power amp! And the amp is so musical - it's like that amp and my Stingray should get married or something!!
The M-Pulse Venture 2x12 is even more awesome but comes with a requisite price increase and greater back-breaking potential.

Since im gonna be going with a 4x10 (or 2) with that I figure i might just get a 410 practice combo. I have been thinking of running an Ashdown Electric Blue 12-180 as a practice combo.
Im looking at my tone from the standpoint of portability between setups right now.
I might look into the Mesa, but from what i gather a 15 will sound a lot different than a 10" |

The Walkabout is no exception. In fact, you can even take the amp out of the cabinet easily and sit it on top of whatever speakers you want!
I bought the version with the 8 ohm speaker so I could connect an extension cab. When I hook up my 4x10 with this thing, earth worms all over my neighbourhood start to panic!
Yeah, a 15" is definitely a different sound - that's why I kept my 4x10 and arranged it so it could used with the Walkabout.

You'll always have the ability to swap any of the three then, as and when you wish if you ever want some more expensive gear!

I am really considering the MicroBass right now. I found some soundclips, and it sounds really nice and "compressed" to my ears.... |

Failing that, get whatever combo you want and a tube preamp. You can plug the pre into either the regular input or the effects loop return, which will bypass the amp's preamp. |

The MBII sounds a lot more midrange friendly and fatter bassed on that, and on the ones by you.
