Got an older 2 knob, flat green DOD FX25 in a partial trade with themutt(thanks!) and had a chance to sit with it for a few hours tonight.
These are the second set of samples I recorded, the first were much better... yet alas my free recording software crashed and ate them. This set was reeled off in haste before I leave for Texas
- 1: First cool sound I could dial in. One time 100% wet (note low end loss), One time blended about 50% clean/wet, One time clean.
- 2: 50% Blended, and then 100% wet.
- 3: Details about 'slow' and how he feels about the album. Or just 50% blended then 100% wet.
For all the 100% wet tests. It's bass -> fx25 -> amp
For the blended and clean. Its bass -> barge blender -> fx25 in loop -> amp (blender on/blender off)
I'm actually pretty impressed so far and will be hanging around for further review
Pros
- Easy to dial in a filter sound that I like
- Cool aged vibe
Cons
- Rattly battery cover
- Bypass seems flawed
- Bottom end loss
- Strong volume swells (and for me control problems), esp on the low end.
For all the cons, I'm glad I listened to someone's advice and put it in a blended loop. When I first played it naked, I was pretty underwhelmed. After sticking it the loop I found myself breaking out the rhythm box and zoning into it for a few hours. It definitely caught me a little off guard, as I was mentally prepared for this to be a quick 'blow by' box that would come through for a night or two and then move on to someone else. It may not be the filter for all time (there is group of big boys I still want to try), but here in my early filter evaluation I find myself pretty damn happy.
