I know i know... but this has a specific question...

As far as the doom goes, one of my favorite sounding bassists is Tatsu Mikami of Church of Misery.

I've searched high and low and have been unable to find out what his effect set-up is. So, anyone here know???

I DO know he plays a Ric that hangs lower than ANY bass i have ever seen...

He must pick around the 12th fret...

Not to dis your fave bassist...just sayin' that looks less than optimal.

Great example of a bass player using a lot of dirt on his sound. I'm curious myself. How you liking the new album?

I really do like the band so i ordered it(rather than being a stinking DL-er, which i am, indeed guilty of on occation) and it should arrive on Monday. Bassed(lol-pun) on the Myspace tracks... sooo good so far!

Here's the link by the way for anyone interested and gifted in pedal identification...

Can I just take a guess and say there's probably a phaser, some kind of muff-variant, and maybe another source of modulation between a rick and a tube amp?

I mean, that's exactly what i was thinking, and it's fairly easy to ascertain.

The pedal-nerd in me is just curious as to WHICH phaser, wah, muff fuzz, and modulation, tube amp etc. he is using.

Like, is it's lots of guyatone stuff? Cheaper end boss/digitech/MXR/EHX stuff? Is it like fancy/rare boutique stuff?

I dunno, they've been together a while, and he's been playing for even longer. People who have been in the biz for a while tend to either have really cool fancy set-ups or mind-bogglingly basic ones...

Again... just me being a pedal-nerd.

You're gonna need to go to a show and get a shot of his board or something. When the effects are layered on so thick, it's pretty hard to tell which pecific units he's got wired up.

This isn't a new band. That guy has been playing like that for at least 11 years now.

Thank you for introducing me to these cats I LIKE. Some of what I have heard sounds like he has a tremolo effect going or could be chorus set to extremes. I would definitly say a fuzz of some sort (rat, bug muff) into an ampeg.

Here's a couple of snapshots from the "Live in Red" DVD:

So at least he's got a DSD-2 and some kind of Cry Baby.
