One has to go - which is it? Woolly Mammoth vs Brown Dog

OK, I'm financing some new gear and need to get rid of things collecting dust in the closet.

For the most part it's easy to find stuff that isn't working for me, but I think that these are both good effects.

The mammoth kinda blew me away when I first got it. It's still pretty killer.

I don't like the "sideways" form factor and my old guild battleaxe (which is passive) doesn't like it either. It kills with a Pbass though.

The brown dog I got in trade for a cbread SFT, so I got a great deal on it. Seems righteous, maybe not as balls out as the mammoth but it's cool that it has a clean blend on it and seems not to be as finicky?

So in terms of cash the mammoth will go further than the dog.

I've had my eyes on an oxide for a long time - worth the try, or do I already have the best fuzz?

Thanks,

CM

For me, the Brown Dog absolutely smashes the Woolly Mammoth so it wouldn't be tough for me to make the decision, lol. I hear that the oxide can cop the Mammoth sound pretty nicely so it doesn't sound like you'd lose much at all if you went that direction.

No reason you can't have both. but there are so many mammoth clones, there is no reason you can't sell high and buy a used clone for way cheaper if you change your mind.

I find the Brown Dog sounds more like a saw or ramp wave. and the WM sounds more like a square wave. a very hard to distinguish subtly in a band setting. but raw i can hear it.

either way you've got 2 of the best fuzzes out there. i personally have the WM. its a great home bass for synth fuzz sound.

ditch the WM (get a clone I have one that plays nice with buffered pedals), keep the Brown Dog and get an Oxide FTW.

The Brown Dog is so versatile and adjustable. Many more sounds in that box than the Mammoth has. And, unlike the mammoth, I can plug any bass into it and not have to worry if they will play nicely.

Brown Dog is a tool box of fuzz tones.
Ditched my Mammoth awhile ago.

I think I agree with everyone else. The Mammoth has only got one sound and it's quite a tiring sound to listen to. The Brown Dog doesn't have much character of its own, but that is not a bad thing.

Yeah my impression is that the dog can *do* a version of the mammoth, just not as overblown....

I hate getting rid of gear, because I'm always afraid a use for it will pop up.

I listened to a few clips of the Oxide, any you guys with Mammoth and Dog tried it out? Seems like it's voiced differently, not as much gating maybe.

Need Coffee......
