One more FX Loop / Sans Amp question *hides*

Sign in to disble this ad
So I finally decided to buy PBDDI from Sansamp.

I have heard about it cutting mids and honestly I dont care, I am not big fan of them anyways.

I am intending to use it with my Yorkville 15" Combo so far - main purpose - having 3 different presents (by the way if any one knows of better pedal in this "preset / stomp" field plz do tell), and if future might come in handy with DI.

So I have read many times about FX loop and have done some research, and ppl say you can bypass you "built in preamp" in this case my Yorkville's EQ as I understand.

My question is - how will it work? Might be a bad example but i own ODB3 from Boss, and I tried it in FX loop, I thought ODB haivng its own EQ options would be the only way to shape the tone, tho with ODB on or off, my combo's EQ was fully functional.

Is there some circuitry in PBDDI that completely disables the combos pre-amp? so that i can run it as PA?

I will appreciate a detailed explanation very, very much, as this has been bothering me for a while!

Thanks for the patience!

^^^^ Yes--it's that simple. The reason it bypasses the combo amp's preamp is because the effects loop is usually after the preamp stage, so if you go straight in to the loop RETURN jack, you are making a direct connection to the power amp section of the combo amp.

To be extra clear, in this case you are not plugging the bass directly into the amp and you are not plugging anything into the effects loop "send" jack.

OHHH!!! that is what it is! ... thanks so much! ... so theoretically i could just plug my bass alone into FX Return and get a clean, dry sound without Combo's EQ..?

I think that explains a lot.

Thanks again.

well not really.
there's a reason you need a preamp: because your bass doesn't produce enough signal on its own to drive a poweramp.

you can however use the PBBDI as a preamp, which is exactly what you're asking about. plug the bass into the PBBDI, and the PBBDI into the FX return. done and done.

Aight, so i got the PBDDI, and i love it... the only thing that i would like ask now is - when i put it before the combo's pre amp - i can crank up volume on my bass - which will give me that fuzz from BDDI's drive knob / define all the settings more and i like that.
I tried putting in the return FX loop and it works, works damn well ... so well that so far its too loud for me to turn my bass volume all the way up (i didnt take it to the studio yet), - since combo volume no longer functions in this case, and BDDI's "level setting" is really relative.. i cant achieve that fuzzy sound with doing into FX loop since have to keep bass volume down ...else braking all the windows XD, or at least thats what i think at this point.

Any ideas if my observations are right / any way to achieve that fuzzy sound with keeping volume down?

The master volume control on your combo should still be active because it controls the power section of the amp. Have you tried it both 1/4" out boost -button pressed on and off?
