Opinions on EHX Stereo Clone Theory?

Sign in to disble this ad
So i put my Boss SYB-5 up for sale for $100 on cl, or trade for a chorus or delay pedal. Somebody offered to trade me their EHX clone theory. What are your guys' opinion on these? All the videos on youtube were it with guitar. My Boss is in perfect condition, since i hardly used it, and the person says that theirs is too. The clone theory is $60 less than my pedal brand new. Do you think this is a good trade? Is the ehx a good sounding pedal?

Hissssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss ssssssssssssssssss.
No, I'd keep looking. A Boss CE-5 would be a better chorus.

I love the tone of my Clone Theory so much I forgive the hiss, but yeah...it's a noisy pedal. Fine for live, a bit much for recording.

Yeah, it pretty much disappears when I'm with the band, or even in a mix on recordings. At home alone, not so much.

I'm really wanting to get an H2O. I definitely don't want a noisy pedal, because i'll be using it in church. Thanks for the advice guys

well even when i'm not playing i can hear the hiss from my amp and eq pedal and it bugs me. I'd rather wait to get a better pedal.

Yeah, nothing else sounds like it, but the hiss is there. A good noise gate pedal could be useful with it. I wonder, are there any noise gate pedals where you can adjust the frequency sensitivity to only gate a certain frequency range and let everything else through?

I never notice it when I'm not playing because it's not on!

Seriously, if you use it a lot it'll get on your nerves, but if like me you only use chorus every now and then, especially in a dense mix, you may well not notice it at all. I wouldn't write it off without at least trying it with your band.

It is a good effect, but the noise killed it for me. The H2O is actually a pretty decent pedal, too, with the added bonus of a delay. For on the cheap, my pick is the Boss CE-5, and if money's not an issue, the Maxon CS 9Pro, (which is most awesome, and silent). Chorus is a tricky effect, and though they all sound similar, the differences are notable. And we all know, it's all about the subtle nuances, when talking about bass effects.
