Opinions on these Delay pedals

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys, I've been lurking about on these boards for a bit and decided to join up.

Currently looking at getting a delay pedal for my new pedal board. All I really need is a fairly simple great sounding delay, not bothered about loopingor even digital/analogue debate. Current opitions are:

1) A Boss DD20. The lead singer of my band is selling one second hand for about £130. Great pedal, but I could just see myself sticking it into "standard" mode everytime and wondering why I had spent £130 on a pedal I use to about 20% of what it is capable of.
2)Boss DD3. Cheaper and probably more suitable to what I need. Possibly too generic though?
3) Artec Custom Analogue Delay. http://www.artecsound.com/effect/index.html
Okay, the cheap option. However a bandmate uses a artec pedal and it really is a great sounding delay. I don't need anything fancy, just a good sound.
4) Anything else you guys can suggest. Want to spend less than £100

I'd love to know your opinions. Sorry this is so long but I'm all over the place! Cheers.

I recently nabbed a Boss DD7 for £105 - its a pretty decent delay with the added bonus of being a 40 second looper
It has a flanger setting as well which bumps up the "fun" value. I've not tried many other delays so i can't really compare it to others but from what i can tell its not missing anything - if you've got the cash for it it gets a thumbs up from me!

You said you're after a more simple pedal but i like having extra options

I notice you use a £ sign rather than a $ so I presume you may be British? If that's the case then check out the effects secion in the marketplace over on BassChat. Some chaps selling a mint Boss DD6 for around £70 - bargain. I was tempted myself but just bought a Carbon Copy, which arrived this morning.

£130 is, IMO too expensive for a DD-20. £100 is about right.

Have you got a link for the dd6? I can't find it anywhere.

I recently picked up a Hardwire delay DL-8 from Digitech and I'm really liking it. I also use a DD-3.

It depends on what you're mainly looking for...analog delay sounds, crisp digital, looping features, etc.

Id go for a DD-7 over a DD-6. They both run about the same price used (at least here in the US), and the DD-7 has a Tap Tempo input which the DD-6 doesnt have.
I never understood why they removed it when the DD-6 came out (the DD-5 has one) but they put it back in with the DD-7..

i'm looking into the line6 echo park. it's about 150 dollars new in the U.S. so i'd imagine that's close 100... i don't have the pounds thing on my keyboard... stupid american... anyway, it looks like a great bang for the buck, considering it has a tap tempo feature... i was using a dd-3, and i gotta tell you, i hate delay that's not in perfect tempo... so anyway, check one out!

That pedal has some great sounds. The one thing I will warn you about with the Echo Park, however, is that the tap tempo can be tricky. The dividing line between the light/halfway step for tap tempo and full step to bypass the effect I could never get the hang of. I had the same problem trying to use the ramp feature when I tried the Rotomachine. Maybe I just stomp like a Clydesdale, but it was aggravating having to make sure you just tap lightly on the switch.
