Options for Splitting clean and overdrive into Silverface

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys, I've been referring to this forum for a little while now and finally decided to sign up today for some advice.

I've got an early 70's silverhead bassman 100 to an SVT 810 and I'm trying to find my best option for overdrive. I have a mastotron fuzz pedal and it sound pretty good through the amp, but one thing I'd really like control of is very ballsy fuzz/overdrive when I need it without losing my low end. Most of the time i'll be playing clean but occasionally I really want to shake up the place when I need to. I read that by using an A/B/Y set up that it's possible to run my clean and fuzz simultaneously which would prevent any loss of low end/clean channel. My question is A. Would I be okay running both outs of the switch into my amp simultaneously through the two different channels on the bassman? B. Is this the best option, if so do you have any recommendations for splitters that could handle running both without any signal loss?

While yes you can use both inputs of the amp simultaneously, a passive A/B/Y splitter opens up potential for problems such as loading (dull, weak tone) and feedback.

You can use an active splitter like the Boss LS-2 to avoid those issues. Additionally there are "blender" pedals that mix your clean and dirty signal paths going into just one amp input. The LS-2 works that way too, and there are many others (search on blender).

Also, this is 2011 and there are some fantastic bass OD pedals that don't lose any lows.
