Opto Stomp vs. BBE BMax Preamp Compressor

Can anyone tell me if the Opto Stomp is the same as the excellent (IMO) compressor in the BMax SS Bass Preamp?

BBE recycles circuit designs as much as anyone else. Although I don't own the opto-stomp, based on past experience BBE wouldn't have gone out of their way to redesign the compressor circuitry in either one.

The manual on the Bmax says it uses optical soft-knee circuitry, and the opto-stomp description says the same thing. I'd say it's a good bet they're identical.

Cool Walter, thank you! I LOVE the single-knob compressor in my BMAX.

I didn't post earlier because I've never used the Bmax. But I agree that BBE are big recyclers, and the optical elements inside are the same, so odds are good that the two are the same or similar.

They are the same. I remember reading some BBE literature that said that the OS was the same as in their bass preamps.

I've owned a Bmax-T, BBE MaxCom, as well as Opto-Stomp.

They've seemed the same in each of them in my opinion. Without getting overly technical or particular.

A little late, but it says in the manual that they are the same.
