So I won one of these on the bay and I'm pretty sure it's the very 1st Sansamp for bass tech21 produced. Although it looks like a simple di box from what little information I can gather they are actually DIP switches within! Unfortunately there is very little info on this and no manual to speak of . So I was wondering if any one had any experience on this somewhat rare box? |

One thing is, you won't get any affected sound unless you get a Midi to 1/4 inch cable - just plugging into the 1/4 jack will bypass the sound.
And yes, the internal pots will change the tone.
Some people thought this was to review the BDDI, but the oldest review there convinced me to buy it back then(I'm the 2nd reviewer, who sold his) Here's his review: Guitars: SansAmp Bass DI Original: SansAmp Bass DI Original | Harmony Central

I've never had the newer bass driver although I do have the VT bass. I'm hoping this unit will be more like the Tech 21 Classic, the one with all the dip switches. If it's anything like this video YouTube - ‪Tech 21 VT Bass vs Sansamp Classic / Original (on... bass!)‬‏ then it will be $34 well spent! |

I'm looking forward to getting it especially if it has the potential of being better that the newer Sansamp... |

It doesn't have dip switches but it has mini controls inside that control the Level, Presence, Drive and Blend. Messed around with it last night and so far it seems really promising, although the output seemed a little weak going through my SWR Amplite. I need to experiment with it a bit more. I really wish it came with an effected 1/4 inch out rather than a unaffected 1/4 inch paralleled out and a standard power input. I'm hopping it can be modded. So I thought I'd share these pics since there is so little info on this guy... |

I think it just sounds better than the later version with all the controls, which I have as well. I also have a SansAmp Classic, though I'd have to be sure on the name. It's the first version with all the dip switches on the front and is primarily meant for guitar (there's one dip switch setting for bass I think); not sure if it was called "Classic" then or not. That's a great tool as well.

The original version of that pedal was just called the SansAmp, the reissue was called the SansAmp Classic. There is also a "road worn" version modeled after Kurt Kobain's pedal. Personally I find that it's geared perfectly for bass. The Marshall setting was my main distortion until I got a Fulltone OCD.
