Now, I've just got an itching to try & maybe buy some new effects (although the next pedals on my shopping list are a tuner & EQ) I'm currently running a board like this
Bass -> Dunlop Bass Crybaby -> Ashdown LoMenzo Hyperdrive -> Blackstar HT-DistX -> EHX Big Muff -> Digitech Synth-Wah (set to synth) -> Nobels Phaser -> Aria Chorus -> Aria Flanger -> Digidelay -> Amp
Now I'm currently playing in afew different bands, ones kinda southerny bluesy hard rock, ones a doom/noise band, ones thrash & ones a neo classical project. I'm wondering, what effects would you guys suggest for me to try out & maybe add to my board?
So far I'm looking into an octaver & a ring modulator.

When I see octaver and "doom/noise" in the same post I think OC-2 specifically for it's glitchiness on low, long sustained notes. |

Though, He is considering a Ring Mod, which Moog makes. I will say that I have used all of my Moog pedals in a classic rock environment, and that my Freqbox has proven itself essential for my solo doom/noise excursions.
to OP: What do you want in a Ringmod?

The OC-3 has a Poly mode which I can only assume means that it tracks chords fine. It also has a OC-2 mode but I've heard that it isn't as faithful sounding as the OC-2 itself. Honestly I have no experience with the OC-3 and can't comment on it's tracking or sound. If I were to try a different octaver, it would probably be the MXR Bass Octave Deluxe. |

I gotta put a word in for the EBS Octabass. Costs more than an OC-2 but less (used) than the new MXRs. Can be considerably tamer (read: more hi-fi) than the OC-2 when you need it to be. Nice thick, true-sounding octave that sounds awesome soloed. Very good tracking for an analog octaver - doesn't limit you to short notes or any of that nonsense. Single-note octave allows you to play the occasional chord, even.
I think the Octabass the ideal octaver for your all-around rock needs. |
