Out of room!

Sign in to disble this ad
Not alot of room on my pedal board and I don't want to scale up to a larger board. Heres what I have so far:

Green Sovtek Big Muff PI
Digitech Modded Bad Monkey
Digitech Bass Synth Wah
EHX Small Clone
Aphex Punch Factory
Arion Stage Tuner

The problem is that the Big Muff takes up so much space that either the small clone or the punch factory has to stay behind.

Is there a smaller pedal that is close to the tone I get with the Big Muff that I can replace it with? I love the tone but man it takes up so much space.

If I had a smaller pedal with the same tone as the muff I might have room for another pedal .

I have been gassing for a delay!

So if I sell the PI what could I replace it with that would get me as close to that tone with a much smaller footprint on my board?

You could have the Big Muff rehoused in a somewhat smaller enclosure.

I'd prefer not to screw around with it, it might be worth something someday and then I realize I am missing the box it was originally housed in!!!!

I even turned a couple of the pedals different ways to get them on the board but it just aint happenin!

It's the little big muff. It's the newer XO series one. Check it out. Might not match the sound of the Sovtek one though, so try before you buy.

There are also a multitude of Big Muff clones out there such as by BuildYourOwnClone, DAM, and Skreddy.

Do you leave the Punch Factory on all the time? If so, you could remove it from the board and just put it by your amp.

Yeah, that is one that stays on all the time. I may just give up and take the muff off the board, I only occasionally use it. So I guess I could push the Bad Monkey a little harder for the stuff I used the Muff on.

Why not replace the Punch Factory with a smaller compressor, like the EBS Multicomp or the Demeter Compulator?

Just an idea.

I looked into the EBS Multicomp before I bought the PF. I really liked it but the best price could find was right at about 200 bucks. I found the PF for $89 new in Cape Girardeau so I was sold on it due to finances.
I really do like the punch factory, now I feel like I can't live without it!

better not turn that sucker off then... :x

+1 on rehousing the big muff. If you love the tone of it so much, then you aren't going to sell it... unless you get into financial troubles, maybe. Plus, you can keep the old enclosure and put everything back in it if you decide to sell it.

You can also take the tuner off - I'm sure your amp has a tuner output or something. It's Arion anyway so it's not like your missing anything. :x haha.

Oooh, another idea...

I figure your budget is tight because of the Multicomp/PF thing, but what if you replaced your EHX Small Clone with an Analogman Mini Chorus? It's much smaller.

Was a good idea till I started reading the analogman website! When I started reading about the mini chorus history it said this:

The original Electro-Harmonix Small Clone was one of the best chorus pedals ever made - with lush, shimmering tones.

Man I hope they are talking about mine!!!!!!!!!

i tried and did not like the nano muff. it is probably a great guitar pedal, though. i can't imagine it being a good bass pedal unless it was on all the time. and i mean ALL the time.

Unfortunate that I am out in the sticks and have no music stores around that carry this stuff. The nearest Guitar center is Memphis which requires me to go thru arkansas.

Have you ever been thru arkansas?

I'm confused. What's the problem?

The Small Clone he refers to is the original one from the 1980s, not the current reissue. AFAIK, the differences in sound are minor, and they look identical (except the old one had no LED).

The old ones do have an LED, they were just smaller and clear. It's the easiest way to tell and old one from a new one.
