Outboard preamp idea.

So I had an idea for an outboard preamp.

I was looking at the Sadowsky preamps, and the first thing I notice between the outboard and onboard versions is that the onboard has a blend knob.

I thought that I could buy the onboard version and install it into a pedal, and have two inputs that I could blend between (clean and od perhaps) and then have the 2 band eq.

I then realized about input impedence, is there any reason why this wouldn't work?

Well, you're right that the onboard is designed to take input directly from the pickups; but the only inherent difference between passive pickups feeding into an onboard pre, and passive pickups feeding an outboard pre, is the length of the wire between the pups and pre.

Your idea should work, bearing in mind that the output of an effects pedal is generally a fair bit different than the unbuffered output of passive pickups. But not so different that it wouldn't work. It might even work quite well. You'd mostly just have to watch your gain settings so as to not overdrive the pre, unless it sounds good to you.
