Outboard Sadowsky Pre + VT Pedal: pointless?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi everyone,

(Bear with me, this is kind of a confusing post! )

Then again, I'm confused most of the time! Anyway.....

I've had the VT pedal for over a year. Like just about everybody else, I use it to get those Ampeg sounds and I think it does a good job. I don't need the new deluxe model because I don't change the settings too much and I use it with my Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 which has an awesome DI. Sometimes I set the 9.0 flat and just use the VT to color my sound, sometimes I combine the 9.0's global shape filters and EQ with the VT.

Like many, I hope to own a Sadowsky bass someday but right now, it ain't happening so I often consider getting a Sadowsky outboard Pre Amp/DI pedal. As I said, I already have the DI side of things covered but maybe that would give my passive basses more balls (I think?) and then into the VT pedal. Would it kind of be like plugging a Sadowsky bass into an SVT or B-15?

Or on the other hand, is it pointless since I already have the VT and I can boost and/or color my sound with it?

I gig and record a fair amount (mostlt Rock, Pop, Blues) so this would be for both of those contexts.

Any opinions/advice? As always, thanks in advance!

Hey, I have both. And I definitely prefer the Sadowsky into the VT Bass with the VT Bass blended (with an LS-2). The problem with the combination of the two is that the Sadowsky outboard's bass knob is centered on 40hZ and the VT Bass has a roll-off at about 80 hz so you don't really get the full effect of the bass knob. So if you are going for that combination I'd recommend getting an LS-2 and then either putting the vt in one loop and the sadowsky in the other or sadowsky before with the vt in the loop.

I play Sadowksy basses thru the VT!
BUT I am using the VT ONLY for rock/pick sounds.

The rest of the time the VT is bypassed.
Maybe this helps
