OutKast's Hey Ya Synth Tone

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm performing OutKast's claim-to-fame, Hey Ya, for a talent show. I'm curious as to whether or not the Boss SYB-5 Envelope Filter would be able to emulate the funky bass synth line that comes in during the chorus. I have a Bongo, so the bass itself is plenty versatile. Could you see a Bongo+SYB-5 achieving this tone? Or would you recommend a different pedal? Thanks so much.

I played this at a wedding once with a digitech bass synth wah and some compression. Sounded ok.

But its pretty hard to recreate that tone.

Great song. I never realized all the intricacies that went into that song until I started breaking it down bar-by-bar. Cool fills on the actual bass in the beginning. Simple yet fitting.

Haha, actually at my school we were going to cover it, and the syb 5 was perfect for it. There are actually a couple of different settings you could try that would fit great.

i think any kind of synthy pedal would sound good (not wah synths though). you could even try some light overdrive, it might not sound great but it would probably sound better then nothing.
