Overcoming volume drop in synths.

So I just picked up a Markbass Supersynth and the tone is amazing. The fact that is programmable is what sealed the deal. For a lot of the material that I play, just one synth sound isn't really enough (if you can believe it). Recording and practicing by myself, it works great. With the band, when I kick it on I instantly disappear. I know that due to the filtering that goes on, you're going to lose a little, but I wasn't expecting to vanish. Anyone have any useful tips for me? Should I use a boost AFTER the pedal in the signal path?
