overdrive blues

this is going to be yet another vt bass related thread
i've had my vt bass since last october and i've loved it, however i was always in the clean tone areas until last week. i happened to discover how awesome its overdrive is in the band situation and how nicely it fills up the spaces in a 3p setup.

but i play a lot of slap bass and the grind doesnt go along with it. so i want a clean slap bass sound but again i dont want to loose the amp sim in the vt bass. so the only solution i see is i dial in the slap sound on the vt and get a overdrive pedal but then which overdrive pedal can sound like vt bass along with vt bass??

so just when you thought you had too many gain based pedals ( i have three on my board) you want another something

buying another vt is too expensive and ridiculous. damn tech21 doesnt make no programmable vt's. anyway what am now thinking about is the programmable BDDI. would that sound somewhat similar? i have a eq pedal to dial up the lost mids if needed but i've read it doesnt sound the same, or does it?
any thing else which you think can work for me here?

A very similar thread just below yours: Boost pedal before a VT Bass

You might like the VT's overdrive tones, but they are nowhere near as good as a tubescreamer type overdrive going into a semi clean VT, IMHO. The two types of pedals just work so well together. I set the gain on my VT Bass so that it's on the borderline between clean and dirty (around 11 o'clock) and push into it with a modded Bad Monkey (soon to be replaced by an Xotic BB) for a bit of overdrive when needed!

tube screamer? you mean this one http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/p...dal?sku=150286
40$ sounds really neat. but i really doubt this pedal works well for bass. something with a blend could be killer though

not necessarily recommended for bass a "normal" tubescreamer has an overwhelming high-mid boost and cuts out considerable low end.

the old school ibanez tubescreamer (based on the boss sd-1 but with symmetrical clipping because roland/boss had a patent on asmmetrical clipping(!)) is the most cloned OD circuit ever.

Bass optimized tubescreamer clones include the fulltone bassdrive, the HBE Hematoma and the xotic Bass BB Preamp, just off the top of my head.
