Overdrive and Flanger, do they sound good together?

Sign in to disble this ad
Today I was jamming on my buddy's guitar and put on some flanger and distortion. The tone was almost exactly the same as Type O Negative. Now I was wondering, how does overdrive combined with flanger sound on the bass? If your wondering why i didnt say distortion and flanger for bass, im not a huge fan of distortion on a bass.

Two great tastes that taste great together.

My only caveat is that I'm a lot pickier about overdrive (or distortion) into flanger on bass.

For instance I like all kinds of dirt into a phaser, and by and large every combination of OD/Dist/fuzz into any given phaser sounds okay to me while some sound great.

But with flanger and dirt, it seems like only certain combinations really do it for me. Just my opinion.

Yep, it's a beautiful thing--but only when you choose your OD and flange voicings carefully.

Yep use it regularly. Specifically an MXR 80 into Boss flanger. For overdubs while recording recently I put both a Boss HM-2 and a D'Addario Very Metal into the flanger and it sounded awesome, wouldn't do it live as it loses too much low end.

Yeah, my EBS ValveDrive into my MXR flanger is one of my 3 staple sounds.

Just To Let You Know, Peter Steele Of Type O Negative Combines Distortion With Chorus For His Sound. Distortion With Flanger Can Easily Give You An Eddie Van Halen Sound On Bass.

Crystalman, please note that only the first letter at the beginning of a sentence, or the first letter of a proper noun (name of a person or place) should be capitalized.

This Looks Really Weird And Cracked-Out Like A Psycho Ransom Note.

I was gonna say, but thought I might be stepping on his toes too much at that point. There was another guy here who was a "colorful" poster, and I made some crack about him smoking crack, and he got pretty upset because he was really trying to kick the crack habit in reality.

HAHAHAHAHA!!! That's great! Most recovering crackheads aren't known for their sense of humor about themselves. Of course, it's usually because they were in jail

Force of habit? Sorry man, I really don't mean to be giving you a hard time, but what industry or avocation would instill the habit of capitalizing every word?

The way I have my OD set and the way I have my Flanger set, the two don't go together, so you really just got to make sure you set them both up so they compliment each other nicely.
