okay, here's the Zeke with a whole bunch of different settings. the first part is dry, then you'll hear the bypass click followed with slight overdrive settings going thru the four clipping options. then various heavy dirt and filter settings. near the end it's dry again(you'll hear the true bypass clicks), then again with some overdrive/distortion. this is my favorite overdrive pedal yet!
Recently, I picked up a Hardwire Tube Overdrive pedal that work well for bass. I turn the Gain to zero and boost the Level to get a little bit of wool into my very clean Class D amp. It is nice because you can turn it off and get back to clean when you need to. The Bad Monkey works OK with this setting too, but the Hardwire is better for bass IMHO.

I've been singing the praises of the Hardwire Tube Overdrive for a while now. Great pedal.

Yeah, I just got one of those myself for my birthday, and I love it!
i modded my bad monkey by installing a switch to toggle it between use for a bass or a guitar, and then added another switch that goes between stock, flat mids and scooped mids. it's actually a pretty good OD pedal for bass now.
i've been playing with almost all of my OD pedals lately. i was going to sell the MXR blowtorch but decided to keep it. when you run one on a 9V power supply instead of the specified 18V, IMO, they sound better (less synthy) and it's a super punchy pedal, and probably the most punchy of all of the od/distortion pedals that i have.
another thing that i found out is, even with a passive (P) bass, i prefer to run the EBS multidrive in the padded or 'active' mode. it doesn't break up so quickly and stays punchier and less compressed. i've also learned to appreciate just how good the SFT really is, especially you don't overdrive it too hard.
i ordered a pork loin over the weekend, so it should be here sometime this week so i can compare it to my others (almost every clip i've heard of it over the internet sounded nice). i also bought a fender sublime in the TB classifieds that should be here soon too.
in the meantime, i'm building a few more OD pedal clones myself so i can check them out too.

a Barber SR LTD (currently building it)
a cochrane timmy
a catalinbread RAH (for my guitar)
a lovepedal silicon fuzzmaster (which has a blend control)
a wooly mammoth
and a mastotron
i guess i got a little carried away with thsi OD/fuzz thing
what the !? Is that a little car up there, first row ? A Mini Cooper OD Pedal kinda thingy ? Like ... the Fuzz and the furious ? (i got trademark on that movie title btw)
No seriously, in comparison to all these other Pedals you own, what do you think of the Tech21 Red Ripper ?
thx in advance
Edit: btw, I'm missing a Rodenberg GAS707-B Overdrive pedal in your collection

Just discovered this thread today and it's been very helpful. Strange enough I was just getting ready to contact my fellow Quad City bassist Ampegfuzz with some OD pedal questions but I see he's already here!
Been using a VT Bass for dirt but not totally thrilled with it in a band mix. Low end just doesn't do it for me, feel like it either gets out of hand or loosed it's punch in the mix.
I've been considering a Xotic BB Preamp or a Pork Loin so I can't what to hear what you got to say on that one. REALLY love that Greentone and the GT Clone you built, those sound awesome!
Thanks for the excellent thread and all your hard work John!

got the Barber "LTD Silver' clone completed today. IMO, it's a very nice overdrive for guitar, and sounds pretty good on bass too, but at the expense of removing some low end punch. i may try and mod it a little to better suit a bass's next week.
since it's late, i've been testing the LTD with headphones and i found some setting thats not only don't lose any low end or low end punch, but can actually increase it. i'll have to try those settings thru the cab tomorrow, and if i get a chance, i'll post some clips of it.
