now that I got this pedal to sound the way that I want it, I made a quick (& sloppy ) 2 minute clip of it. a lot of the clip is with the higher gain settings (to me, it gets almost hypnotic)...... and yeah, I really should've tuned my bass before I made it.
WOW! Nice tone! Now what pedal are we listening to? Can you make a finger style clip if it isn't too much trouble? How would you characterize your creation? Keep up the good work brother.

it's the Toneczar openhaus (modded for bass). it's too late at night to make another clip with fingers, but i'll make one tomorrow.
i picked up a way huge swollen pickle not to long ago and i really dig it, you can dial in allot of great fuzz/OD/distortion tones...
I was thinking of buying one of those to put after my OCD and before the EQ. Thought of the Fuzzrucous (spelling?) Rat Tail, but i only have room for two so think maybe the OCD/Swollen Pickle may be the way to go...
that openhaus has a really great tone. Seems to have more girth than the Ginger I made without getting too distorted. Will consider having a go at it when I have time, seems like a complicated build.
Thanks for the sound clips both picked and fingered.

I can't tell you how much I love this thread, John. I like to peruse it just to see some gut shots I'm a bit of a DIY geek too but you, sir, are a MONSTER (in the best way possible, of course!) I notice a lot of stuff from Tagboard Effects and I never knew IvIark was on TB! Will surely be watching this more closely from now on. Excellent work.

EDIT: meant to ask: what kind of paint do you use for your hand-painted pedals? Also what do you do for the actual enclosure paint? My most recent pedal turned out sounding great but with a pile of dust and crap in the paint

for my hand painted ones(the lettering), I use DecoColor opaque paint extra-fine pens. for the colored enclosure colors, I buy most of them already powder-coated from pedalpartsplus.
Thanks John! The openhaus sounds great! Sometimes a pedal sounds like is has a lot of bite and grit when played with a pick, but drops the bite when played finger style. This pedal sounds great for both. Well done.

you're welcome.
I know exactly what you mean. some dirt pedals muddy up with finger playing, but this one certainly doesn't. it also sounds great with both brand new, or old (dead strings).
.......and, even with the super high gain settings, there's still touch sensitivity, dynamics and note definition.
just finished building and testing another one late last night, a Blackstone mosfet overdrive. IMO, it's a nice OD pedal for bass too. now I just need to mount it in an enclosure. hopefully I can get that done tonight.
Wow. I haven't looked at this thread in a few weeks. The amount of info and amount of pedals you crank out, JohnK, is amazing. That Openhaus clip sounds great. Maybe I missed it earlier in the thread, but is there a difference between the Wampler Ecstasy and the Euphoria?
AFAIK, the ecstasy and the euphoria are exactly the same. he just re-named it.
BTW, I finally got the mosfet overdrive completed. it looks like it's black sparkle in these photos, but it's actually charcoal sparkle. I also mounted the buffer switch externally with an orange status indicator since the pedal sounds great with and without the buffer.

Thank John.
I forgot to mention in the review just how well the pedal is built. It's a sturdy, clean and lightweight build. John is really on point with his pedal builds.
Id like to see a rehoused GK diesel dawg with the addition of a blend control. Don't know whether or not its possible, but I really enjoyed that OD. Only thing I didnt like was how lost the fundamental got. If i still had mine id send it to you for tinkering but its gone

I still have one (and just traded my second of it), and I agree, a blend on it would be a very good addition.
