The Overdrive "Issue"

Long time reader, first time poster (I think...). Anywho, I've been in the market for an OD pedal for a long while.

My current rig is: MIM J w/ quarter pounders -> SVT 3-Pro -> Ampeg 4X10 HLF (a furry one).

I'm a HUGE fan of Eddie from Thrice's tone. I love how he just leaves his OD on through pretty much ever song. Like it's a channel on his amp. I know he gets his tone from a Line 6 distortion modeler but I'm looking to find something "like" it, but in a single pedal. In the studio I was able to run my bass through both my rig and a Sovtek Mig 50 to get the tone I've been looking for (www.myspace.com/oilhead, if anyone's curious), but I can't really be dragging both amps to small clubs.

I had scoured my local music stores (a GC and a few indies), read A LOT of forums, listened to endless youtube clips, and I THOUGHT I found what I was looking for in the EBS MultiDrive. It added the low end growl that I'm looking for and found it quite musical.
But then I started looking around again just to make sure there wasn't anything I missed in my searched...and that's when I ran into the "issue".
Because now I'm MORE confused since I discovered the following:

Pork Loin
Polish Love
SFT

So, if there's anyone out there that also loves low end growl and leaving OD on all the time, PLEASE weigh in. Because I want something "tone defining".

I have an OD that I leave on all of the time (Dark Driving - BJFE Honey Bee/BBBOD clone). Eddie's OD actually removes a little low end from the signal and keeps a normal amount of mids (no boost in mids). The SFT with the bass and treble at noon or treble a little above noon and bass a bit below noon should get you close.

I owned the SFT for about 24 hours, but it wasn't for me.

The EBS Valve Drive might be more your cup of tea. Though the SFT has alot of fans here, too.

Don't go with a Polish Love. It's very loud and noisey. I flipped mine after only having it for a day. For some reason, I just don't like the Pork Loin or SFT...that's just me. I've never used them and don't intend on doing so. Currently, the ODs that I've come across that I've actually liked (and own) are the BJFE BBBOD (good luck finding one of those) and a Fulltone OCD (V3 I believe). The OCD is unreal! It's so versatile, going from a light OD adding growl to your bottom end, to distortion and fuzz tones. No low end is lost at all. I'm also in line for the upcoming Fuzzrocious Dark Driving <-- check it out
