time to add some effects to the line up. been playing clean for years and that always worked with the old band and my bass learning experience. now i have some new projects that are requiring some more range in effects and sounds.
new band plays a dub math-rock blend
looking for some light to medium OD and some feed back type effect and someway of filling in the deepbass for reggae type lines. was reading about the taBASSco. what you think of this pedel?
i own a 1980's tnt 130 15" and a godin freeway active.
i used to use a roland gt-6b i still have some where but no adapter and never messed with it much and a boss phaser.
what does the smashing pumpkins bass player uses. i should know his/her name. and for the dub sound bill laswell type bass effects. i also like lake trout and don cabilaro bass sounds.
i do have the gt 6b do u think that could fill these rolls or would i get better effects from single boxes
any and all comments welcome
cheers

would it make sense to have a eq pedel set to a reggae eq (cut the mids) when i want to go deep. is there anything else i need for the dub sound?

i mean the tnt 130 doesn't suck and it fills the size of rooms and bars i play. i just got a new cone put in.
it is the only amp i have ever owned . any suggestions? |

For overdrive, there are so many of them out there, it's almost hard to recommend one. Most overdrives used around here are either modified/based on the Tubescreamer, or are amp emulators like the Tech 21 line. I'm using two overdrives at the moment, the Tech 21 Leeds (Hiwatt emulator) and the McSpunkle And Aardvarks, which is a cool mosfet boost/light overdrive. |

id say an octave or 2 down will fill in the deep parts. OC-2 seems to be the favorite here. idk much about filters, but you'll likely need one of those too. and i agree with bigchief. entirely too many OD pedals to just start throwing them out there.

I play in a dub band and the OC2 along with an Iron Oxide Xerograph low pass/envelope filter are an essential part of my sound. I roll back the frequency control on my filter to achieve suppa low freq dub tones by cutting out the high frequency part of the signal. |

Other popular octave pedals include: MXR BOD, Aguilar Octamizer, and Foxrox Octron

D'arcy used both jazz and p basses, and I've seen pictures of her using both Trace Elliot and Mesa amps around that time. But that's only live shots. Billy actually did almost all the bass parts on the album, so who knows what the hell he used. |

Like the rusty box (very good pre/overdrive too) it doesn't color the tone of your rig with it's own signature tone like an SFT or VT. So, they sound bright or aggressive to many ears.
I use it to give my tone an overdriven tube like breakup. |
