Overdrive pedal

Which overdrive pedal is the best for the money? I was thinking of either the Boss ODB-3, MXR Blowtorch, or the Ibanez PD7.

Thanks

Blowtorch is more of a fuzz then an overdrive, the boss is also more of a distortion then overdrive. I've heard the Marshall Guv'nor retains low end, even though its a guitar pedal. I'm looking at one myself now, since they are so cheap. However I'd wait for someone more experienced in effects to come along and re-write all of this...

How much money are we talking, there are a lot of over drive pedals on the market these days. You've listed the mainstream ones there, which are not bad budget pedals. The Boss ODB-3 is either loved or hated, the MXR Blowtorch is a bit to buzzy for some. Some of the more favourite over drive pedals that work well for bass are Electro Harmonix Big Muffin, Fulltone Bass Driver, DHA VT1 std Bass.

My favorite is the EBS Valve Drive. Very natural, but pricey.

from the three you mention - The PD7 is probably the most versatile, then MXR, and then the boss.
for me though it would be the MXR
(even though i still own all three!)

I was thinking of anything up to $140, but I would rather something cheaper. I'm thinking of the Guv'nor, ODB-3 or PD7. Which of those three is the best? By the way...thanks for your replies.

The Govnor would most likely be the best out of that range of pedals, and like someone mentioned earlier, it has got good bottom end.

yeah....fulltone in that price range...
anyway...not to knock on you, but doing a search would be the best, cause you can find clips of all those pedals in previous threads and that should help form an opinion!
if youre lazy to do that, then suggesting going into a store and trying the pedals would be pushing it!

Just wondering... are you referring to the original one or the 2nd version? Or do they sound the same?

PD7 clean then MAX OD, then Max Dist, followed by Pandora fuzz. Raunchy pedal for a good price.

You can back off these settin but not get more. The seperate bass and treble controls really help as well.

I wouldn't get the boss. I did not like the sound of mine. I thought it sounded too digital. But that's just me.

At $50 new, it's hard to beat the PD7. I got one on ebay once before for $18.00!

I think it sounds better than the ODB-3, that's for sure.

I have a clip of it here...

www.myspace.com/thecelltheorem.

I have it on all of "78" and after the heavy intro of "Six Eight Groove".

Im probably going to get laughed at, but I picked up Dano Daddy-O a few years ago, and I haven't used another OD pedal since then. It does everything I need it to, and it sells for cheaper than a lot of the others out there.

hahhahaha... i only laugh because i liked the daddy-o for a while. it was my first OD pedal and it was the only thing left over from my short lived days as a guitar player

i got the odb-3 after... and ditched it soon after. i just picked up a pd7 and IMO is much better then the odb3 as far as tone and being much more versatile.

I have not tried the blowtorch but it seems more like a fuzz.

I owned an ODB-3 for a long time, and finally ended up just giving it away. I thought it was garbage.

some people manage to use the odb3, some really famous people, but it did not work with me either

fizzy and no cut on my sound.

I listened thru all the overdrive samples on the bass player od pedal shoot out and actually had the Ibanez in my final list.

With full tone, Gallien Krueger and EBS valve drive

I personally think my PD7 kinda stinks, ok for the price i suppose. Sounds pretty cheap to me. I have tried the Boss in stores and think I would prefer that one. But..each to his own...listen to them all if you can and you pick. None of us know your taste. I haven't heard the Blowtorch yet..but would love to someday.

My 2cents; the original one has nowhere near the bottom end needed to be usable on bass.

It has an excellent sound but you'd have to switch the caps on it for more bass to make it suitable for practical purposes.
