Overdrive Possibilities

I have not ventured much towards overdriving my rig. Other than a chorus (EBS, TC Electronics), and an envelope filter (Mooger Fooger, EBS) I have not really played many pedal effects. One of the bands i am working with requested we do two songs that Niacin had recorded "Elbow Grease" and "Mean Streets". I totally respect Billy Sheehan but have not followed him. What I am thinking of is the EBS Valve Drive. But I have not heard one overdrive pedal. Not even the Valve Drive. At least if I heard someone using one I never took notice to ask him what he was using. Crazy right. So what I am asking is. Is there a pedal that will do 2 things. Warm up an amp when needed and also give the overdrive sound similar to sheehan or should i get a pedal which functions best and known to be an overdrive pedal only. Also the pedal will not lose bottom when on. Any pedal comes to mine? or Rack Unit? Any help will be appreciated.

Yeah Sansamp PBDDI comes to mind. its has three programmable channels. so you could use one for a kind of tube-like warm sound and another with more gain for the overdrive sound. Some like the sansamps some don't. The overdrive wont get too crazy i would search around the forum for sound clips and recommendations. Sansamp is hardly the only choice and if you want LOTS of overdrive it certainly isn't the best.
