Overdrives/Bass Overdrives with Bass/Low and Treble/High controls?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been searching around for a new overdrive and I think I've decided I need one with low and high controls. I'm using a Boss ODB-3 and Fulltone OCD but the Boss sounds a little too artificial and the OCD just doesn't give me the low end response I need.

So, while the ODB has these controls, and I can get a decent sound out of it, I'm looking for a pedal that isn't so..I don't know..artificial or whatever.

So what's out there? Digitech Bass Drive? Ibanez Phat Hed? Ibanez TSB?

Aguilar agro. Done. By far the best sounding overdrive out there. It has a presence knob (>4KHz boost/cut) and a contour knob (900Hz boost/cut).

The Xotic has been catching my eye, as has the Agro. Now the Rusty Box looks sweet too. I've noticed these are around the $150 range, which is steep, but if it gets me the tone I'm looking for it's worth it. I'll see if I can find a Digitech or Ibanez anywhere to see if that gets it done (I'm sure they pale in comparison to the more boutique options, but might as well give em a go).

It's tough not being able to do a hands on comparison though...

What kind of settings are you using on your Boss? The circuitry takes it into the distortion realm pretty easily. I keep the gain down around 8 oclock and the same for the blend knob. Actually I can't remember if they call it a blend but that's basically what it does and I can get just a touch of nice overdrive while still retaining great low end bass tone. One thing I've noticed is the controls a VERY sensitive and it's easy to go overboard and have it sound artificial

+1 on the Xotic BB Bass .... my fav is the Xotic RC Bass though. It is more of an overdrive, whereas he BB is more of a distortion type

For extensive sound sculpting, the Hartke Bass Attack is really excellent.
The overdrive part of this pedal is OK, it adds a moderate amount of dirt to the signal.
It is also a DI.

Cool. I'll see if I can check these out. So far the front runners seem to be The Xotic BB and the Bad Monkey (modded if possible). Now how's the BB more of a distortion than overdrive compared to the RC? Can I get a run down of these sounds?

As far as the ODB3, I usually do use the blend to keep a more organic tone. It's getting the job done, but I'm just curious as to what else is out there.

How about the new unti from Iron Ether? Also, does EHX (or is it MXR) still make a graphic distortion?

no chance you'd want to use a blend for the OCD? its pretty well agreed upon as one of the best overdrives around. if you dig the tone, but need more bottom, that would do it.

What would you recommend for a quality blend pedal with a small footprint?
