Overdriving digital pedals?

Sign in to disble this ad
I use a PBDDI as a preamp and I've noticed that if I crank up a clean boost in front of it (the make-up gain knob on my compressor) I can get a much dirtier distortion sound out of the sansamp's "drive" section. Do other people do this? I realize that the sansamp is a digital pedal (I think), so if I cranked things up enough I'd probably max out some ADC and get nasty digital clipping. But it didn't seem to happen when I tried this the other day..

One of the main features of the Sansamp is its ability to respond to dynamics in a tube-amp-like way. So, yeah, I think people realize it, it's why they buy it in the first place.

The only digital part of the PBDDI is for its channel programming. It's analog otherwise.

But yeah, it's supposed to react like a tube amp, so anything you throw in front of it will cause it to react accordingly.

Boo, I just noticed your moniker under your username. I said it in a commercial voice and made myself LOL.

It took me a good 5 minutes to realize how you clipped the numbers in half. :/

Sometimes I pin the input gain on my 2880 (a digital loop station) at 5 o'clock. Its actually doesnt sound too bad.

Actually metaphysically speaking 2=1=0. But that's getting off topic.
