| overdriving pedals at line level?

I'm about to leap into pedal using. I'm wondering, is line level output of crossover too much for a pedal that's used to getting instrument signal?
It might be good to put envelope filter MXR M82 and EBS Octobass octaver on just the highs.
Preamp-EQ-crossover-(pedals)-amps?
