Oxide or B:assmaster?

Sign in to disble this ad
This has probably been asked before, but I can't find a thread that specifically answers this: how close is the Oxide's brassmaster side to a silicon Malekko B:assmaster? I'm trying to decide between the two, and am leaning towards the Oxide - however, the Oxide doesn't have the same switches as the Malekko, and I'm wondering if I'll be missing out on some useful controls.. Any advice?

Also - the gated side of the Oxide isn't too important to me, as I already have a Woolly Mammoth..

i would check out the oxide/xerograph megathread thing for more info, because its, well, a megathread; big.

anyway, ive had the malekko for a couple years, and the oxide for a couple months. i dont like every sound the assmaster makes, but the ones i do like can be copied exactly by the oxide. the difference in knobs/switches is more the oxide being more tweakable/useful, and will not hinder your ability to get assmaster tones.

When I had tried the B:assmaster I was sort of dissapointed. It's too much like it's own sound(i felt like it just took over your sound and tone completely). I was with some friends and they thought it wouldn't cut well through a mix either. I'd say go for the oxide.

B:Assmaster is an extreme dirt box. You love it or you hate it - it's a matter of personal taste.

BTW, it cuts through the mix like razor blade.

Thanks for the info, everybody! It looks like the Oxide would be the safer bet.

I have had both and I went with the Oxide. I wish I could afford to have both but the Oxide is more versatile

I've had both as well ... not simultaneously ... but I think the Oxide is a better deal. It is also smaller if real estate is an issue.
