Oxide or Supercollider?... Or Ruiner if I'm being cheap...

Sign in to disble this ad
Okay, so I am finally getting rid of my Boss ODB-3 (Cue rapturous applause and much celebration on my part) and I'm looking for a fuzz to replace it. I'm looking for something thick and angry and possibly gated and I've narrowed my options down to the Iron Ether Oxide or the Earthbound Audio Supercollider. I quite like what I've heard from the Devi Ever Ruiner as well but if one of the others are a lot better or a lot more versatile I don't mind paying a bit extra.

The kind of sound I'm looking for is quite similar to this:

The Dead Weather - Die By The Drop (Video) - YouTube

Although if the pedal can do a whole bunch of other sounds as well that is obviously a plus.

Oh, if it helps, I play mostly 60's, 70's and 80's style rock 'n' roll on a Squier VM Jaguar through a Fender Bassman TV Duo Ten.
Thanks in advance!

Oxide's got the gate... I have an Oxide and had a Supercollider, between the two, I'd take the Oxide.

I've owned both - and love both.

The Supercollider is kinda a one-trick pony, where the Oxide has a lot more options.
Don't let that sound like a +1 to the oxide tho, both boxes have their own thing going on.

Personally I love a fuzz on my board that'll sustain for days and feedback, which is why the Oxide has not replaced the SC on my board.
I think your question about a gated fuzz pretty much answers this......

Well, the supercollider i know has a mids knob on the newer models so you can get that early fuzz sound out of it. I actually find it very versatile but the Oxide probably has more of it. But like mentioned before, two different beasts.

I had a Supercollider. I have an Oxide. Love the Oxide. Lots of cool tones to be had. Love the Brassmaster-ish tones when I need them. I personally like it alot more than both the germ and sil B:assmasters I've had.
I liked the SC too, but as stated before it is a bit of a one trick pony, and for me personally I found it a tad too hissy for my tastes. Just my 2 cents...YMMV.

Nothing sustains like a Supercollider.

I went with the Oxide and, oh man... Its beautiful. In a really angry tear-your-spleen-out-and-eat-it kind of way. I run mine after my Bad Monkey and with the morph knob all the way over to the Brassmaster-y side. Mmmm.

Only problem is, I still haven't stopped GASing for a Supercollider >.<

If you want that sound, I'm like 95% sure that my Oxide can do that.

Yeah, after twiddling around with the Oxide I got exactly the sound I was asking about in the OP.

I've just started thinking about adding a thick, doomy fuzz to my board, though which is why my Supercollider GAS has resurfaced.

The fact that they're being discontinued isn't helping my self-restraint either.

I like my Brown Dog a real lot, but I sure wouldn't mind having an Oxide.
