Parallel effect chains/boards

So I just picked up another Whammy IV and I thought to myself: "Self, why would you put a second whammy in a huge, already too hard to control chain when you could just use it to start a second parallel chain." So, here's the idea:

Bass >> GR-20 >>

mix out >> Whammy IV >> EQ >> wah >> OD >> DMM >> trem >> phaser >> flanger >> KP3 >>

inst. out >> flanger >> Whammy IV >> env. filter >> fuzz >> delay >> RC-20xl >>

both into my RC-50.

I think I'll need to make a combiner for the end of the first chain (I bypass the KP3 with a homemade A/B box so I can use a mic with it) and either an A/B/Y box or a double kill box for the split after the GR-20.

A nice piece of this setup is that my 'essentials' are all on the second chain, so I could just pick it up and take it out for jam sessions.

I guess what I want to know is has anyone here tried parallel effects chains or boards going to a single amp? Also, where should I put my compressor?

Thanks in advance.

I use parallel chains all the time. It allows for very thick tones and you can pile a lot of effects without getting a blurry, messy tone.
The Boss LS-2 is perfect for this.

+1 I as well use parallel chains. ART A/B/Y box, and then I just run both chains into the two inputs on my amp. I found that I actually like this method better than using a blender pedal.
