Right now I have on order a Badger Schism Parallel looper:

http://www.badgereffects.com/para.html

Does quite a bit and the price isn't bad at all. I should hopefully have it on my board in the next week or two (It's still being built).

Yes - it allows parallel wet+clean and wet+wet.

Could you put a phase inversion switch on the s&m? Are they completley esential? Since I dont really undertand their overall function.

Some pedals flip the phase of the signal. When this happens a sine wave becomes a wave in the with the positive peaks in the negative voltage range and vice versa. In series this is fine, because there is no other signal to create conflict. When you have parallel signals that do this you have a positive voltage counteracting a negative voltage which results in a cancellation of much of the signal.

A phase inversion switch makes it so you can take an inverted phase signal and bring it back in phase with with the parallel signal. The parallel signals will now accumulate, not cancel.

Not without modifying the circuit.

No phase inversion switches can be useful in some circumstances but I wouldn’t say they are essential.

I'm looking to use one channel clean and one with my effects
but what if while using the S&M I discover that one of my pedals is out of phase with the parallel clean?

If one of your pedals is an SFT or 442 filter then you need that phase switch! There are plenty of others out there but they are the ones I own that I know invert the phase. The Wounded Paw Super Blender has 3 channels with phase switches but is massive compared to the sfx S&M!

EHX Black Russian Big Muff Pi

Digitech Bass Synth Wah

Aside from SFX & Badger, some of the customer loop makers can probably do this (loop-master comes to mind).
