Parts Website Recommendation Needed

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello all,

I'm looking to order some parts to start building some simple effects, devices, and to wire up some of my basses (another sub-forum post possibly?). I'm in Canada so a Canadian supplier would be ideal but not mandatory. Maybe a little feedback about sites you've ordered from before. At the moment I'm looking at the DIYstompboxes.com store.

Thanks,

GM

I'm in Canada as well, but I've always had good luck with USA-based Small Bear Electronics. They stock stompbox-specific items, and are very easy to deal with. Shipping is pretty reasonable as well. The website is:

http://www.smallbearelec.com/home.html

Hope that helps!

Not to be left out mouser.com is also a legit site for parts and ships world-wide.

Mouser is king, however I generally don't recommend them to complete beginners because you need to know some stuff to not order the wrong parts there. I have a little drawer of gigantic caps, microscopic opamps, unusable chemicals, etc. all from my early days of Mouser orders.

What makes Small Bear great for beginners is precisely what makes them not as great for later on: their selection is very limited. This is great for starting out because you can only buy things you might actually use in a stompbox.

Thanks everyone, I think I'm going to Small Bear a try. Sorry if this is kind of a n00b question but what is the standard gauge of wire used in most effects?

Small bear is great! they have a very good collection, enough for making most of the DIY projects out there!
Allthough, I remember that http://www.pedalpartsplus.com/ had better prices on boxes and 3PDTs. Actually I think in freestompboxes.org some american users have made group buys for 3PDTs...
Anyways, nice to see some DIYers here! That's how I actually started hehe, so if you need any help with those effects, don't hesitate on asking!

Best Regards

Doug.
