Passive DI reversal?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys.
Quick question, please be prepared to shoot me down in flames.

I love my active basses, but also love my Wooly mamooth.
As many of us know, the to are destined to be mostly mutual friends and nothing more.

However, I have seen some discussion of the use of a buffer to change the low impedence of an active to simulate the high impedence of a passive bass.
given that this is basically the opposite of what a passive DI box does, is it possible to feed my bass into the output of the DI, and feed the pedal from the the input?
As it's Passive and basically just a transformer, I can't see why it shouldn't work, but then i have very little knowledge in the ways of electronics and impendence.

Just a thought.

Matt

edit: In fact, my wireless receiver has a balanced output, so if it works, i could go back to running round like a plank on stage too...

I don't think the reversed DI would work (it seems too simple; nothing is ever that simple) but you can get a fairly cheap, simple, adjustable buffer box from a few different makers.

Yeah, the simplicity of the idea was my major doubt.

sorry to be a PITA, but does anyone have a link to said variable buffer?

Try it and see if it works. The DI is passive, what's the worst that could happen?
