pawn shop find

Sign in to disble this ad
So long story short I got a bass eq and a boss fuzz fz2 at a pawn shop for $100.
I just got them because I needed an eq and i haven't seen a boss fuzz with that many tone shaping knobs.
Anyways, i was wondering if someone could tell me how I made out on this, and any info/actual price on the fz2

While I have no experience with the Hyper Fuzz I researched some opinions,...maybe to glean if it were an original circuit design or a clone. I caught a gut shot and it is more complicated then most fuzz circuits out there (might just be a function of the different modes and the tone controls on it). It appears to be an IC based circuit as opposed to a simple transistor based circuit.

I'm not sure what you are looking for out of it soundwise but most of the terms I've seen to describe it is "industrial",..."in your face" Nine Inch Nails and Deftones type sounds. If you are looking for more classic fuzz toanz,...the FZ-3 is recommended (not sure what bassists would say as most of the opinions I gleaned were likely from guitarists).

People offering their opinions also commented that using the FZ-2 in conjunction with an EQ pedal helps it to sound better (a pretty subjective opinion).

A search of ebay turned up two auctions in the states,...both with BINs,...one at $90 and the other one a $150. Those prices seem a little overinflated if I'm honest. Most boutique fuzzes are around the same prices. Funnily enough both ebay ads contained copy and pastes of the exact information I got off the Boss Area website.

35,000 were made and it was produced in Taiwan from 1993 till 1997 but that doesn't necessarily make them rare or desirable.

That said $100 for two pedals isn't bad at all. Plug em in and if the sound appeals to you then use them happily,...if it doesn't you could probably easily get your $50-$100 back.

Woa, that's pretty awesome thanks for the pedal info.
I'm already using a fix'd fuzz but I haven't had time to play with it.
Just incase I don't like it, what do you think a good/fair price I can post it for on the classifieds?
Again, thanks man

I searched the Hyper Fuzz in the TB classies and saw two ads,...one for $65 seemed to go quick and another for $80 (a thread in which you commented on) which is still open (threads almost a year old) and from what I can tell is still "on hold".

When it comes to selling I like to get a low and high price on previously sold similar pedals and ask somewhere in between. For the most part I'm a cheapskate and always looking for a bargain and I know that other people are too (I like things to sell quick as well) so I'd ask for $75 shipped but be willing to have some wiggle room if people start wanting to haggle.

as a proud owner of a Boss FZ-2 Hyper Fuzz Im here to tell you its the bee's knees! It has two very different (and useable) fuzzes with 2-knob EQ as well as gain. Also has a clean boost so if anything you have a clean boost!

How do you think it will sound with a fix'd fuzz pedal with all 4 toggles on? (clean, fuzz1, fuzz2, shade)
Or can you recommend some settings?

Thanks for the setting ideas. I had a show tonight and I used the hyper fuzz and the equalizer. Both now have a purpose in my sound.
The equalizer for when I slap.
The hyper fuzz for a really good yet Controlled fuzz.

Thanks guys for the info on my pedals
