PBDDI users: how different are your presets?

Do people who use the PBDDI actually find themselves switching between markedly different presets? I mean I can see myself having a growly rock sound, and then a heavier metal sound, but if the only difference is the position of (for example) the drive / volume knobs, then I might as well get the non-huge, non-programmable BDDI.

...still trying to pick an overdrive pedal. Initially I was stuck between the Diesel Dawg and English Muff'n. Then that guy had to go and post that clip of himself playing 'The Pot' through a BDDI; and now suddenly I have a third pedal to consider... phew.

At the moment, not very different at all. I've been using it primarily for recording over the past few months, and they are all minor variations to the "SVT" sound. The BDDI is a versitile and valuable tool in a lot of different situations.

Do you have to pick just one? I have a PBDDI, an English Muff'n, a PE Depth Charge, a Fulltone OCD, and a Boss HM-2. Each of them has their uses. If I could only keep 2, it would be the PBDDI and the Muff'n. If I could only keep one, it would be the PBDDI becuase it has so many uses besides just an OD...

...but I would really miss not having the Muff'n.

I have three different presets one mine

1) basically for my jazz bass - I can get great sounds out of it depending upon the settings on my bass (pups, tone control, hand position)

2) one for my fretless - almost no drive, sounds good. kind of a one-trick pony setting though, as this setting doesnt show off my other basses very well.

3) one for my Ibanez, which is my bass I use for Tool covers and noodleing around in that kinda genre.

I'll post my settings for these late tonight when I get off work.

As far as OD, I use a Metal Muff for that. Not the best in the world, but I'm broke
I might be looking to trade it for something else in the future, but I'm fine for right now.

If I crank the drive on my third preset and crank the distortion on my Metal Muff...the tubey OD/grind is to much to handle!

I don't technically have to pick just one, but it would be an awful lot of money to be spending all at once on pedals.

Right now I have exactly one pedal in my signal path: an EBS Multicomp. I need an overdrive/distortion pedal to add grit for the songs where a clean sound isn't appropriate. It's never sounded quite right to be up there playing songs like "Spoonman" and "Stinkfist" with this very respectable passive J-bass tone I have...

Anyway, buying one pedal would be best. The BDDI is now interesting me because in addition to the overdrive it would let me get some "active" type tones as well.

If I had infinite money I'd probably get a Sadowsky preamp and put it in front of my multicomp, then follow that with the Muff'n. But that's like... 200 more dollars than I want to spend on this issue. :P

Maybe I should get the Muff'n or Diesel Dawg now for my metal needs, and then save up for a sweet pre-amp later..
