PD-7 vs. ODB-3

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm starting a new thread to get some input on recommendations between the Ibanez PD-7 and Boss ODB-3.

I have a PD-7 but I'm not sure how happy I am with the sound overall. I think the biggest thing may be the lack of a blend knob which the ODB-3 has so that I can make the effect more of an accent rather than all-out dirt. I've got a BBM and a Blowtorch for my Fuzz / Distortion needs, but I would like something that has the capacity to get down and dirty but can also be pulled back.

So what are your impressions of these two pedals against each other? Would I be well served to trade in my PD-7 for an ODB-3? It seems like I've heard of a ton of professionals using the ODB-3, but never heard of any using the PD-7, which makes me wonder if it is actually just a bit of a beginner's pedal or something.

For the record I play heavier rock with touches of metal and I would like something cuts through nicely and can still produce an aggressive attach with a finger-style approach

Thanks!

If you can handle a little bit of a wait, order a Bogdan overdrive from Poland. It ousted my ODB3 from the board. I'm not necessarily done with it yet, but in terms of overdrive/distortion, this thing delivers. I think the price is still under a 100 (95 US i believe), and it is well worth it.

if you want something with a blend knob, look into the digitech bass driver, its relitively cheap and it ranges from slight overdrive to all out distortion.
give it a shot, im sure there are many more pedals out there that fit what your looking for, but ive not had any experiences with any other than the digitech and the ibanez. i love them both, but im currently using the ibanez more, mainly because i cant decide how i want to set the controls on the digitech because it has such a broad range of sounds.

I have a PD-7 and I think it's a great pedal. I have also had a ODB-3, which I hated from the time I got it. I run the PD-7 into a MXR M-80 with the color button on. I get a great sound from it. The color button gives it the right amount of flavor for me. JMO

I got an ODB-3 and within two weeks had sold it. I really did not like the sound of it at all, but from what I've heard of the PD-7, it's a much better pedal.

So what if a few pros don't use it, who knows you could be one of the first :P

Go to a music store if you can and let your ears make the decision. That being said,
they are both good pedals and it depends on what sound you want. Some people like the ODB-3, but it seems most players don't like them. For the sound I was looking for (full blow metal distortion) I got the ODB-3 and like it. I tried the PD-7 and it was good too. Neither does a great overdrive in my opinion, much more like a distortion to me and they are both a tad noisy. My primary pedal for overdrive is a Fulltone BassDrive which has a totally different sound and is dead quiet.
