Hi everybody. I'm a total newb in the science of pedals. Don't get me wrong; I'm a good experienced bass player,I have always been a sound purist. However I want to improve the sound of my bass.

I play by myself most of the time, I'm a little bit of a bass hermit, my equipment is a jazz bass, a cable, and my incredibly sweet Yorkville 50 watt amplifier.

I heard some time ago from this producer I got to meet that a compressor would help, since I play a lot of slapping and popping and also it would help my sound cleaner when I play fast heavy metal riffs (YYZ for example). What is the best option for a compresor? Maybe I should get something else?

Welcome! Compression can be useful for a variety of applications on bass. Our resident expert in compression is bongomania, who is very helpful and has a page devoted to explaining how it works and he's done dozens of reviews as well. Read through these two pages, and if you have any more questions, fire away!
